Chloridobis(1,10-phenanthroline-?N,N')(2,2,2-trichloro-acetato-?O)cobalt(II).

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Co(C(2)Cl(3)O(2))Cl(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], was obtained by the reaction of trichloro-acetic acid and CoCl(2) in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline. The Co(II) ion exhibits a distorted octa-hedral geometry, with three N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and the Cl(-) ion in the equatorial plane and one O atom from the trichloro-acetate ligand and one phenanthroline N atom in axial positions. This compound is isostructural with the analogous Mn(II) complex. The trichloro-methyl group of the trichloro-acetate ligand is disordered over two positions with occupancies of 0.190?(5) and 0.810?(5).

Project description:The title compound, [Cu(2)(C(2)Cl(3)O(2))(2)Cl(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], features a centrosymmetric binuclear complex. The coordination geometry around the Cu(II) atom is square-pyramidal, comprising two N atoms from a symmetrically chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, one O atom from a trichloro-acetate ligand and two Cl(-) anions. In addition, there is a weak intra-molecular Cu?O inter-action of 2.9403?(14)?Å involving the carbonyl O atom of the trichloro-acetate ligand. The central Cu(2)Cl(2) core takes the form of a rhombus, owing to the disparate Cu-Cl bond lengths. Mol-ecules are connected in the crystal structure by C-H?Cl and C-H?O inter-actions.

Project description:In the title complex, [CoCl(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)]Cl·2.5H(2)O, the Co(II) ion is coordinated by four N atoms of two bis-chelating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands, one water mol-ecule and a chloride ligand in a distorted octa-hedral environment. The dihedral angle between the two phen ligands is 84.21?(3)°. In the crystal structure, complex mol-ecules and chloride ions are linked into centrosymmetric four-component clusters by inter-molecular O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. Of the 2.5 solvent water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, two were refined as disordered over two sites with fixed occupancies of ratios 0.50:0.50 and 0.60:0.40, while another was refined with half occupancy.

Project description:In the title Pb(II) complex, [Pb(2)(C(2)Cl(3)O(2))(2)(NO(3))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)](n), the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand is chelating, the nitrate anion chelates one Pb(II) ion and simultaneously bridges a neighbouring Pb(II) ion via the third O atom, and the trichloro-acetate anion is bidentate, bridging two Pb(II) ions. The coordination geometry is based on a penta-gonal-bipramidal geometry defined by an N(2)O(5) donor set with no obvious stereochemical role for the lead-bound lone pair of electrons. The coordination polymer has a zigzag topology along [010] and comprises alternating eight-membered {PbONO}(2) and {PbOCO}(2) rings.

Project description:The title complex salt, [CuCl(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)][Tb(NO(3))(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))], consists of discrete [CuCl(phen))(2)](+) cations and [Tb(NO(3))(4)(phen)](-) anions (phen is 1,10-phenanthroline). The [CuCl(phen))(2)](+) cation contains a five-coordinate Cu(2+) ion, ligated by two bidentate phen ligands and one Cl(-) ion, exhibiting a distorted CuN(4)Cl trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. In the [Tb(NO(3))(4)(phen)](-) anion, the Tb(3+) ion is coordinated by one chelating phen ligand and four chelating nitrates, forming a distorted TbN(2)O(8) bicapped dodeca-hedral configuration. The anions and cations are assembled into a three-dimensional network by weak C-H?Cl and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. There is also a significant ?-? stacking inter-action, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.635?(2)?Å.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(14)H(6)Cl(6)N(2), contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules, each of which is slightly twisted from planarity. The dihedral angles between the central ring and the two outer rings are 3.81?(7) and 4.30?(7)° in one mol-ecule, and 4.13?(8) and 4.10?(7)° in the other. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are inter-linked by C-Cl?Cl inter-actions into sheets parallel to the ac plane. These sheets are stacked along the b axis in such a way that the mol-ecules are anti-parallel; they are further connected into a supra-molecular network. There are no classical hydrogen bonds. C?Cl [3.637?(2)?Å], Cl?Cl [3.5639?(5)-3.6807?(8)?Å] and Cl?N [3.3802?(15)-3.4093?(15)?Å] short contacts and ?-? inter-actions, with centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.5868?(9)-3.7844?(9)?Å, are observed.

Project description:In the title compound, [Co(C(9)H(8)NO(3))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)]NO(3)·H(2)O, the Co(II) atom is six-coordinated by a carboxylate O atom of the hippurate (Hc) anion, a water O atom and four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The uncoordinated O atom of the hippuric acid anion is involved in an intra-molecular hydrogen bond to the coordinated water mol-ecule. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving the Hc anions, the coordinated water mol-ecule, the nitrate anion and the uncoordinated water mol-ecule.

Project description:In the title compound, [CoCl(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))], the Co(II) atom is four-coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry by two N atoms from a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligand and two Cl atoms. The Co atom and the phenanthroline unit are located on a mirror plane. The methyl H atoms are disordered about the mirror plane and areeach half-occupied. In the crystal structure, π-π inter-actions between the pyridine and benzene rings and between the pyridine rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.8821 (9) and 3.9502 (10) Å, respectively] stabilize the structure.
