Catena-Poly[[[bis-(?-4-hydroxy-benzoato)bis-[(4-hydroxy-benzoato)manganese(II)]]-di-?-4,4'-bipyridine] 4,4'-bipyridine disolvate tetra-hydrate].

ABSTRACT: In the polymeric title complex, {[Mn(O(2)CC(6)H(4)-p-OH)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))]·C(10)H(8)N(2)·2H(2)O}(n), the Mn(II) atom is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry defined by four O atoms from three different carboxyl-ate ligands and two trans-N atoms from two 4,4'-bipyridine ligands. In the crystal structure, an extensive range of O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds link the complex and all non-coordinated mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title compound, {[Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](C(9)H(7)O(3))(2)·2H(2)O}(n), was obtained by the hydro-thermal reaction of manganese chloride with mixed 3-hydroxy-lcinnamic acid (H(2)L) and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) ligands. The structure contains [Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](2+) cations with the Mn(II) atoms lying on a centres of inversion and bridged into a linear chain along the a axis by 4,4'-bipy ligands, surrounded by HL(-) anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. Extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding and weak ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7572 ?(3)?Å] between the constituents lead to the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Zn(C(7)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))]·4H(2)O}(n), contains a highly distorted octa-hedral Zn(II) metal center strongly coordinated by two N atoms of two 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) ligands and chelated by two 4-methyl-benzoate anions. The crystallographic inversion center and glide plane present at the center of the C-C single bond of 4,4'-bipy, along with the cis coordination motif of the 4,4'-bipy, lead to one-dimensional zigzag chains. There are a large number of water mol-ecules in the crystal structure, which also form one-dimensional chains through O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

These are connected into supra-molecular layers by hydrogen bonding involving aqua ligands, perchlorate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. A twofold inter-penetrated primitive cubic supra-molecular network is formed by the inter-action of pseudo-layers by hydrogen bonding between aqua ligands and unligated 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, (C(10)H(9)N(2))(2)[Mn(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)(H(2)O)(8)](C(8)H(3)O(7)S)(2)·C(10)H(8)N(2)·15H(2)O, consists of dinuclear Mn(II) complex cations, sulfonato-benzene-dicarboxyl-ate trianions, 4-(4-pyridyl)pyridinium cations, uncoordin-ated 4,4'-bipyridine and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. One 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecule bridges two Mn atoms, forming a centrosymmetric dinuclear complex; the mid-point of the C-C bond linking the pyridine rings of the bridging ligand is located on an inversion center. Each Mn(II) atom is coordinated by four water and two 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Mn(II) atom deviates by 0.591?(5) and 0.209?(2)?Å from the mean planes of the coordinated pyridine rings. In the 4-(4-pyridyl)pyridinium cation, the two pyridine rings are twisted with respect to each other, making dihedral angle of 34.78?(17)°. The uncoordinated bipyridine mol-ecule is also centrosymmetric. One of uncoordinated water mol-ecules has site symmetry 2, and the other uncoordinated water mol-ecule is located close to an inversion center and its one H atom is disordered equally over two sites. Extensive ?-? stacking between pyridine rings is observed and an extensive hydrogen-bonding network of the types N-H?N, O-H?N and O-H?O is present.

Inter-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a chain along the a axis. Inter-actions between neighboring chains occur through O-H?O hydrogen bonds, which link the chains into a two-dimensional supra-molecular network parallel to the ac plane. In addition, O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the water mol-ecules and carboxyl-ate groups also exist in the the crystal structure.

Project description:The hydro-thermal reaction of cobalt nitrate with 4,4'-bipyridine and 3-nitro-benzoic acid lead to the formation of the title complex, [Co(C(7)H(4)NO(4))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)](n). In the crystal structure, the Co(II) atoms are coordinated by two terminal carboxyl-ate anions and four 4,4'-bipyridine ligands within slightly distorted octa-hedra. The Co(II) atom and one of the two independent 4,4'-bipyridine ligands are located on a twofold rotation axis, while the second independent 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecule is located on a centre of inversion. One of the two rings of one 4,4'-bipyridine ligand is disordered over two orientations and was refined using a split model [occupancy ratio 0.68?(2):0.32?(2)]. The Co(II) atoms are connected by the 4,4'-bipyridine ligands into layers, which are located parallel to the ab plane.

The manganese atoms are alternately bridged either by two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 12.284?(1)?Å, or by two carboxyl-ate groups from two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 4.064?(1)?Å, thus producing polymeric chains propagated in [101]. Weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance of 3.730?(3)?Å between the aromatic rings of neighbouring polymeric chains] further stabilize the crystal packing.
