ABSTRACT: The Zn(II) atom in the title compound, [ZnCl(2)(C(13)H(20)N(2)O(2))], is four-coordinated by the imine N and phenolate O atoms of the zwitterionic Schiff base ligand, and by two choride ions in a distorted tetra-hedral coordination. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H?O and N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds along [010].

The complex adopts a distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry around the metal centre with the Schiff base ligand coordinated in a bidentate fashion via the imine N and phenolate O atoms. In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H?O and C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains parallel to the c-glide planes.

One of the perchlorate anions is disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.611?(15) and 0.389?(15). Intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed in the complex dication. In the crystal structure, the perchlorate anions are linked to complex dications by inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The Ni atom is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by two phenol O atoms and two imine N atoms from two equivalent Schiff base ligands, in a square-planar geometry. The Zn(II) atom is four-coordinated by the imine N and the phenolate O atoms of the Schiff base ligand, and by two chloride ions, in a distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The dimethyl-ammonio group is disordered over two positions with site occupancies of 0.51 (3) and 0.49 (3). Project description:The title complex, [Zn(NCS)(C(13)H(20)N(2)O(2))(2)]NO(3), consists of a complex mononuclear Zn(II) cation and a nitrate counter-anion. The Zn(II) ion is five-coordinate in a trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. The thio-cyanate N atom and two O atoms from two Schiff bases define the equatorial plane, and the two imine N atoms from the same two Schiff bases occupy the axial positions, with an N-Zn-N angle of 175.98?(7)°. The amine N atoms of the Schiff base ligands are protonated and are not involved in the coordination to the metal. The dihedral angle between the two substituted benzene rings is 87.7?(2)°. The nitrate counter-ions are linked to the cations through N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, [ZnCl(2)(C(13)H(20)N(2)O(2))], was first reported in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n [Han et al. (2010 ?). Acta Cryst. E66, m469]. This investigation reveals a triclinic polymorph in the space group P-1 with an asymmetric unit that contains two independent mol-ecules of the mononuclear zinc(II) complex. In each mol-ecule, the Zn(II) atoms are coordinated in a bidentate fashion by the phenolate O and imine N atoms of the Schiff base ligand. Two Cl(-) anions complete the tetra-hedral coordination in each case. The most obvious difference between the two forms is that the Zn-L (L = O, N, Cl) bond lengths in both unique mol-ecules are longer than those found in the monoclinic polymorph, or indeed in other similar complexes. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked through N-H?O and N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the b axis.
