Tetra-ethyl-ammonium (2,2'-bipyridine)tetra-cyanidocobaltate(III) sesquihydrate acetonitrile solvate.

ABSTRACT: The title complex, (C(8)H(20)N)[Co(CN)(4)(C(10)H(8)N(2))]·CH(3)CN·1.5H(2)O, consists of tetra-ethyl ammonium cations, mononuclear [Co(III)bpy(CN)(4)](-) anions and uncoordinated water and acetonitrile mol-ecules. The Co(III) atom is six-coordinated by two 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) N atoms and four cyanide C atoms in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The acute bite angle of the chelating bpy [82.28?(8)°] is the main factor accounting for this distortion. In addition, the tetra-ethyl-ammonium cation is significantly disordered [occupancy ratio 0.611?(3):0.389?(3)]. The presence of water mol-ecules, one of which is disordered over two positions about an inversion center, results in the formation of a network of O-H?N hydrogen bonds involving the cyanide N atoms.

The complete cation is generated by crystallographic twofold symmetry, with the V atom lying on the rotation axis. The unusual ligand arose from nucleophilic attack on the coordinated nitrile by the thiol-ate precursor and reduction of nitrile to the imidate.

Project description:The title compound, [Ru(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(C(13)H(7)N(3)S)](PF(6))(2)·CH(3)CN, was synthesized by the reaction of thio-phosgene and bis-(2,2'-bipyridine)(1,10-phenanthrolin-5-amine)ruthenium(II) bis-(hexa-fluoridophosphate). The Ru(II) atom adopts a slightly distorted octa-hedral RuN(6) coordinaton formed by four N atoms of two bipyridine ligands and by two N atoms of the 1,10-phenantroline ligand. The isothio-cyanate group is almost linear, with an N-C-S angle of 174.4?(6)°. Two of the three hexa-fluoridophosphate counter-anions are located on inversion centres.

The dihedral angles formed by the pyridine rings of the bpy ligands are 8.86?(12) and 10.12?(14)°. In the crystal, the cations and anions are linked by C-H?F hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Mo(C(18)H(24)N(2))(3)][Mo(6)O(19)]·4CH(3)CN, comprises an [Mo(di-t-Bu-bipy)(3)](2+) cation (di-t-Bu-bipy is 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine), two halves of Lindqvist-type [Mo(6)O(19)](2-) anions (with each anion completed by the application of a center of inversion) and four acetonitrile solvent mol-ecules. The geometry around the metal atom of the cation resembles a distorted octa-hedron, with each of the three di-t-Bu-bipy ligands being almost planar [deviation from planarity < 6.3?(2)°]. Supra-molecular inter-actions, namely Mo=O??, C N??, C-H?O and C-H?N, along with electrostatic forces, mediate the crystal packing. Two of the tert-butyl groups are affected by rotational disorder which was modeled over two distinct positions with major site occupancies of 0.707?(9) and 0.769?(8).

Project description:In the title compound, [AuCl(2)(C(9)H(12)N)(2)][AuCl(4)]·C(2)H(3)N, there is a mirror plane passing through Au and the central C-C bond of the bipyridyl ligand in the cation, and through Au and two Cl atoms of the anion. A cis-AuCl(2)N(2) square-planar geometry for the cation and a square-planar AuCl(4) geometry for the anion result. The two C atoms and the N atom of the acetonitrile mol-ecule all have m site symmetries. In the crystal structure, weak C-H⋯Cl inter-actions may help to establish the packing.

Project description:In the title compound [Ru(2)(C(15)H(11)N(3))(2)(C(24)H(16)N(6))](PF(6))(4)·4CH(3)CN, two of the counter-ions and one of the solvent mol-ecules are disordered with occupancies for the major components between 0.57 (2) and 0.64 (1). The structure of the dinuclear tetracation exhibits significant distortion from planarity in the bridging 2,3,5,6-tetra-kis-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine (tppz) ligand, which has a saddle-like geometry with an average dihedral angle of 42.96 (18)° between adjacent pyridine rings. The metal-ligand coordination environment is nearly equivalent for the two Ru(II) atoms, which have a distorted octa-hedral geometry due to the restricted bite angle [157.57 (13)-159.28 (12)°] of their two mer-arranged tridendate ligands [2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (tpy) and tppz] orthogonal to each other. At the peripheral tpy ligands, the average Ru-N bond distance is 2.072 (4) Å for the outer N atoms trans to each other (N(outer)) and 1.984 (1) Å for the central N atoms (N(central)). At the bridging tppz ligand, the average metal-ligand distances are significantly shorter [2.058 (4) Å for Ru-N(outer) and 1.965 (1) Å for Ru-N(central)] as a result of both the geometric constraints and the stronger π-acceptor ability of the pyrazine-centered bridge. The dihedral angle between the two tpy planes is 27.11 (6)°. The intra-molecular linear distance between the two Ru atoms is 6.6102 (7) Å.

Project description:The title compound, (C8H20N)[Fe(C44H28N4)(CN)2]·CH2Cl2 or (Et4N)[Fe(TPP)(CN)2], was recrystallized from di-chloro-methane-diethyl ether. The compound crystallizes with the two unique halves of the Fe(III) porphyrinato complex, one tetra-ethyl-ammonium cation and one inter-stitial di-chloro-methane mol-ecule within the asymmetric unit. Both anionic Fe(III) complexes exhibit inversion symmetry. Both the cation and the solvent mol-ecules show positional disorder. The cation is disordered over two sets of sites with an occupancy ratio of 0.710 (3):0.290 (3); the solvent mol-ecule is disordered over three positions with a 0.584 (6):0.208 (3):0.202 (5) ratio. The crystal packing features columns of [Fe(TPP)(CN)2](-) anions that propagate along [001]. The columns further pack into layers that are parallel to (011) and also include the Et4N(+) cations. The inter-stitial CH2Cl2 mol-ecules appear in the inter-layer space. This complex may serve as a useful precursor for the assembly of multinuclear and extended CN-bridged complexes for the design of single-mol-ecule and single-chain magnets, respectively.
