ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Mn(2)(C(6)H(8)O(4)S)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(4)](ClO(4))(2), which was crystallized from an aqueous solution, features two Mn(II) atoms in the asymmetric unit, each being coordinated by four N-atom donors from 2,2'-bipyridine ligands and two O atoms of two different 3,3'-sulfanediyldipropionate (L) ligands, with the O atoms in cis positions. The two carboxyl-ate groups of each L ligand, which adopt a syn-anti coordination mode, combine with four Mn(II) atoms, yielding one-dimensional chains extending along [010].

Project description:The unit cell of the title compound, [Mn(2)(C(2)O(4))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(4)](ClO(4))(2)·C(10)H(8)N(2), consists of a binuclear cation, two perchlor-ate anions, and one solvent 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) mol-ecule. In the complex cation [Mn(2)(C(2)O(4))(C(10)N(2)H(8))(4)](2+), two Mn(II) atoms are bridged by a bis-(bidentate) oxalate ligand, each Mn(II) atom being further coordinated by two bpy ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The distance between the two six-coordinated metal atoms is 5.583?(1)?Å. ?-? stacking inter-actions [inter-planar distances between bpy rings = 3.739?(1)?Å] are essential to the supramolecular assembly. There are extensive inter-ionic C-H?O inter-actions between the cations and between the cation and anion. Three of the four perchlorate O atoms are disordered over two sets of sites with occupancy ratios of 0.852?(6):0.148?(6).

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(14)H(8)O(6)S)(C(10)H(8)N(2))](n), the Mn(II) ion is coordinated by four O atoms from three 4,4'-sulfonyl-dibenzoate (sdba) ligands and two N atoms from one 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy) ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The manganese atoms are alternately bridged either by two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 12.284?(1)?Å, or by two carboxyl-ate groups from two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 4.064?(1)?Å, thus producing polymeric chains propagated in [101]. Weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance of 3.730?(3)?Å between the aromatic rings of neighbouring polymeric chains] further stabilize the crystal packing.

The Cu(2+) ion is six-coordinated by three water O atoms, and two N atoms and one O atom of the 2,2'-bipyridine-3,3'-dicarboxyl-ate bridging ligand in a sligthly distorted octa-hedral environment. Extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding and weak ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7572 ?(3)?Å] between the constituents lead to the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.
