ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(30)H(34)N(4)O(6), contains two independent mol-ecules. In one independent mol-ecule, the two eth-oxy-carbonyl groups are each disordered over two conformations with occupancy ratios of 0.586?(2):0.414?(2) and 0.508?(2):0.492?(2). The crystal packing exhibits weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The structure is disordered by exchange of the terminal heterocyclic rings; the site occupancy factors are ca 0.8 and 0.2. The crystal packing involves some ?-? stacking [3.449?(4)?Å between pyrrole and terminal thio-phene rings].

It has one meth-oxy substituent attached to the bridgehead C atom that links only the two cyclo-pentene rings and two methyl carboxyl-ate groups located on the C atom shared by all three non-benzene rings and that shared only between the cyclo-propane and the cyclo-pentene rings. The stereochemistry of the two enanti-omers (racemate) that assemble in each unit cell is RRRS and SSSR. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via C-H?O hydrogen bonds and C-H?? inter-actions, forming double-layered sheets lying perpendicular to the a axis.

Two C atoms act as donors to the same O atom acceptor, resulting in the formation of R(2)1(7) ring motifs. These two motifs combine to form hydrogen-bonded sheets running along the a- and b-axis directions.

The pyridine ring is inclined to the 4-methyl-phenyl ring by 26.64?(6)°, and by 57.43?(6) and 56.81?(6)° to the benzene rings. The benzene rings are inclined to one another by 88.32?(6)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of C-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with an R 2 (2)(14) ring motif. The dimers are linked via a number of C-H?? inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional architecture.
