A clone containing centromere-associated DNA from Chironomus pallidivittatus was obtained by microdissection-microcloning. It hybridizes to the centromeric end of one chromosome and exclusively to regions in the three remaining, metacentric chromosomes to which centromeres have previously been localized on cytological grounds.
