ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Cu(NO(2))(2)(C(5)H(8)N(2))]·2H(2)O, the Cu(2+) ion exhibits site symmetry 2 and is hexacoordinated by four O atoms from two nitrite ions and two N atoms from two 2-ethyl-1H-imidazole mol-ecules. A free water mol-ecule assists in forming a three-dimensional network holding together the complexes via O-H?N, O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Each Cu(II) atom displays an elongted square-pyramidal CuN(2)O(3) coordination geometry with a slight tetra-hedral distortion in the basal plane. The dimeric units are linked into a three-dimensional network by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the binuclear title compound, [Cu(2)(NO(2))(4)(C(4)H(6)N(2))(4)], centro-symmetric-ally related complex mol-ecules are linked via weak Cu-O inter-actions, forming dimeric units. The Cu(II) atom displays an elongated square-pyramidal CuN(2)O(3) coordination geometry with a slight tetra-hedral distortion of the basal plane [maximum deviation = 0.249?(2)?Å]. The dihedral angle formed by the imidazole rings is 26.20?(10)°.

Project description:In the title compound, {[Cu(C(12)H(6)O(4))(C(3)H(4)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)]·2H(2)O}(n), the Cu(II) cation is coordinated by two naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate (naph) dianions, two imidazole mol-ecules and one water mol-ecule in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The Cu-O bond distance in the apical direction is 0.509?(3)?Å longer than the mean Cu-O bond distance in the basal plane. The naph dianion bridges two Cu(II) cations, forming a one-dimensional polymeric chain. The coordinated water mol-ecule is hydrogen-bonded to the carboxylate groups and imidazole ligands of adjacent polymeric chains, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure. No ?-? stacking is observed in the crystal structure. One solvent water molecule is disordered equally over two positions.

In the chain, trans-[Cu(imidazole)(2)](2+) units are sequentially bridged by bis-bidentate oxalate ligands, resulting in an octa-hedral CuO(4)N(2) donor set. The Cu⋯Cu separation through the oxalate bridge is 5.620 (5) Å. Both the Cu atoms and the C-C bond of the oxalate bridge are bis-ected by inversion centres.

The two Cd(II) atoms have quite different coordination environments: one is octa-hedrally coordinated by four Cl atoms and two N atoms from two 1-ethyl-1H-imidazole ligands, and the second is in a severely distorted fivefold coordination by four Cl atoms and one N atom from a 1-ethyl-1H-imidazole ligand. Adjacent Cd(II) cations are inter-connected alternately by pairs of chloride bridges, generating an infinite step-like chain along the a axis. One ethyl group of the 1-ethyl-1H-imidazole ligand is disordered over two sets of sites with a 0.668?(13):0.332?(13) site-occupancy ratio.

The crystal structure is maintained via N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. There is one disordered solvent water mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit, with occupancies of 0.44 (2) and 0.56 (2).
