ABSTRACT: A novel metal-organic framework based on 1,3-bis-(imidazol-1-ylmeth-yl)benzene (1,3-bimb), [Cd(NO(3))(2)(C(14)H(14)N(4))(2)](n), has been synthesized hydro-thermally. The structure exhibits a two-dimensional metal-organic (4,4)-net composed of Cd(II) atoms and bimb ligands, and such layers are further joined through inter-layer C-H?O hydrogen bonds to generate a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:In the title coordination compound, {[Zn(C(14)H(14)N(4))(2)](NO(3))(2)·CH(3)OH}(n), the cationic complex forms a looped chain containing 24-membered M(2)L(2) rings. The ligand adopts two distinct conformations that are alternated in subsequent loops. The Zn(II) ion displays a slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometry being coordinated by four N atoms from four 1,3-bis-(imidazol-1-ylmeth-yl)benzene ligands. The nitrate ions and methanol solvent mol-ecules are located between adjacent double-stranded chains and participate in an extensive net of O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The resulting three-dimensional assembly is further stabilized by ?-? inter-actions between benzene rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.878?(2) and 3.853?(2)?Å].

Project description:In the title compound, {[Mn(C(14)H(14)N(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](NO(3))(2)}(n), the Mn(II) ion is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by four N atoms from four 1,3-bis-(1H-imidazol-1-ylmeth-yl)benzene (L) ligands and two water mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Two L ligands are related by a centre of symmetry and bridge Mn(II) ions, forming a positively charged polymeric chain in [101]. Uncoordinated nitrate anions further link these chains into layers parallel to the ac plane via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title complex, {[Cu(NO(3))(2)(C(13)H(12)N(4))(2)]·2H(2)O}(n), the Cu(II) atom is located on a crystallographic center of symmetry and adopts an N(4)O(2) octa-hedral coordination geometry with four imidazole N atoms in the equatorial sites and two O atoms in the axial sites. The dihedral angles between the central benzene ring and the imidazole rings are 4.93?(11) and 46.08?(12)°. The 1,3-bis-(imidazol-1-yl)-5-methyl-benzene ligand is bis-monodentate, linking symmetry-related Cu(II) atoms into sheets in the bc plane. These sheets are further bridged into a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure by O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title coordination polymer, {[Cd(C8H4O4)(C14H14N4)]·C3H7NO} n , was synthesized by solvothermal reaction of metallic cadmium with the semi-rigid neutral ligand 1,4-bis-[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)meth-yl]benzene (bix) and the V-shaped benzene-1,3-di-carb-oxy-lic acid (m-H2bdc). The structure exhibits a pseudo-C-centring which is almost fulfilled by the polymeric metal complex but not by the solvent dimethylform-amide (DMF) mol-ecules. The asymmetric unit contains two independent Cd(II) ions, two m-bdc(2-) ligands, one and two half bix ligands, and two solvent DMF mol-ecules. The Cd(II) ions are both five-coordinated by three O atoms from two different m-bdc(2-) ligands and two N atoms from two different bix ligands in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The m-bdc(2-) ligands adopt a chelate-monodentate coordination mode, connecting neighboring Cd(II) ions into a zigzag chain parallel to [110]. Adjacent chains are further cross-linked by bix ligands, giving rise to a puckered sheet nearly perpendicular to the chain direction. Thus, each Cd(II) ion is connected to four neighboring Cd(II) ions through two m-bdc(2-) anions and two bix ligands, giving rise to the final non-inter-penetrating uninodal layer with sql (4,4) topology.

Project description:In the title coordination polymer, [Cd(C(8)H(11)O(4))(2)(C(14)H(14)N(4))](n), the Cd atom (site symmetry 2) is six-coordin-ated by two O,O'-bidentate 4-carboxy-cyclo-hexa-necarboxyl-ate (Hchdc) ligands and two N atoms from two different 1,4-bis-(imidazol-1-ylmeth-yl)benzene (1,4-bix) mol-ecules in a very distorted cis-CdN(2)O(4) octa-hedral environment. The 1,4-bix mol-ecules act as bridging ligands that bind two Cd(II) atoms, thus forming an infinite chain propagating in [100], which is decorated by the Hchdc anions. The structure is completed by O-H?O hydrogen bonds, which link the chains together.

Project description:The structure of the polymeric title compound, [Ni(2)(C(8)H(10)O(4))(2)(C(14)H(14)N(4))](n), features a five-coordinate Ni(II) centre defined by four carboxyl-ate O atoms from two different cyclo-hexane-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate (chdc) ligands and an N atom from one end of a 1,4-bis-(imidazol-1-ylmeth-yl)benzene (1,4-bix) mol-ecule. The NO(4) coordination geometry is distorted square-pyramidal with the N atom in the apical position. Each end of the chdc ligand links pairs of Ni(II) atoms into a paddle-wheel assembly, i.e. Ni(2)(O(2)CR')(4). These are connected into rows owing to the bridging nature of the chdc ligands, and the rows are connected into a two-dimensional grid via the 1,4-bix ligands. The 1,4-bix ligand, which is disposed about a centre of inversion, is disorderd. Two positions of equal occupancy were discerned for the -H(2)C(C(6)H(4))CH(2)- residue.

The ligands link the Cd(II) ions into a ribbon-like structure running along [201]. One O atom of the nitrate anion is disordered over two positions with site-occupancy factors of 0.59?(2) and 0.41?(2).
