A long and ever-expanding roster of small (∼20-30 nucleotides) RNAs has emerged during the last decade, and most can be subsumed under the three main headings of microRNAs (miRNAs), Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), and short interfering RNAs (siRNAs).
