A double salt of iodo-bis-muthate: cis-aqua-iodidobis(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II) tris-(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II) trans-hexa-?(2)-iodido-hexa-iodidotribismuthate(III).

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Co(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)][CoI(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)][Bi(3)I(12)], conventionally abbreviated [Co(phen)(3)][CoI(phen)(2)(H(2)O)][Bi(3)I(12)], where phen is 1,10-phenanthroline, the Co(II) atom in one cation is coordinated by six N atoms from three phen ligands in an octa-hedral coordination while the Co(II) atom in the other cation is coordinated octa-hedrally by four N atoms from two phen ligands, one water O atom and one I atom. In the anion, three Bi(III) ions adopt an octa-hedral coordination constructed by six I(-) ligands. The three BiI(6) octa-hedra are fused together through trans face-sharing.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](2)[Co(H(2)O)(6)](C(11)H(7)O(8))(2)·4H(2)O, was obtanied by the reaction of cobalt acetate with 3,5-bis-(carb-oxy-meth-oxy)benzoic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline. The asymmetric unit contains one tetra-aqua-(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II) cation, one half of a hexa-aqua-cobalt(II) cation that is completed by inversion symmetry, one 3,5-bis-(carboxyl-atometh-oxy)benzoate trianion and two lattice water mol-ecules. The two Co(II) atoms each show a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination (CoO(6) and CoO(4)N(2)). The cations, anions and lattice water mol-ecules are linked by an intricate network of O-H?O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional structure.

The uncoordinated O atom of the hippuric acid anion is involved in an intra-molecular hydrogen bond to the coordinated water mol-ecule. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving the Hc anions, the coordinated water mol-ecule, the nitrate anion and the uncoordinated water mol-ecule.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Co(C(12)H(6)N(2)O(2))(H(2)O)(4)](NO(3))(2), consists of a Co(II) complex cation with twofold rotational symmetry and two nitrate anions. The Co(II) atom has a distorted octa-hedral geometry with the basal plane occupied by two 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione N atoms and two aqua O atoms, with the other two aqua ligands in axial positions. Project description:In the title complex, [CoCl(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)]Cl·2.5H(2)O, the Co(II) ion is coordinated by four N atoms of two bis-chelating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands, one water mol-ecule and a chloride ligand in a distorted octa-hedral environment. The dihedral angle between the two phen ligands is 84.21?(3)°. In the crystal structure, complex mol-ecules and chloride ions are linked into centrosymmetric four-component clusters by inter-molecular O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. Of the 2.5 solvent water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, two were refined as disordered over two sites with fixed occupancies of ratios 0.50:0.50 and 0.60:0.40, while another was refined with half occupancy.

Project description:The nitrilo-triacetate trianion in the title compound, [Zn(2)(C(6)H(6)NO(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)]NO(3)·6H(2)O, is engaged in N,O,O',O"-chelation to the phenanthroline-chelated Zn(II) unit, giving a distorted octa-hedral geometry for the metal atom. One of the three O atoms of the trianion that is engaged in chelation also binds to the bis-(phenanthroline)-chelated Zn(II) unit, whose five-coordinate geometry is distorted owing to a long Zn?O inter-action [2.401?(2)?Å]. The dinuclear cations, nitrate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network via O-H?O hydrogen bonds between water molecules and carboxylate O atoms.
