ABSTRACT: In the heterodinuclear title complex, [GdZn(C(22)H(18)N(2)O(4))(CH(3)COO)(3)], the Zn(II) ion is five-coordinated in a square-pyramidal environment defined by two O atoms and two N atoms from the ligand, forming the square plane, and one acetate O atom serving as the apex, while the Gd(III) ion is nine-coordinated in an approximate mono-capped tetra-gonal-anti-prismatic environment defined by four O atoms from the ligand and five acetate O atoms.

Project description:In the title complex, [Co(C(18)H(18)N(2)O(4))(C(2)H(3)O(2))(H(2)O)]·2CH(3)OH, the Co(III) atom is hexa-coordinated by water and acetate groups in the axial positions and by the tetra-dentate Schiff base occupying equatorial positions. These axial bonds are longer than the equatorial bonds to the tetra-dentate Schiff base. Two mol-ecules form a dimer through strong hydrogen bonds from the coordinated water of one mol-ecule to the meth-oxy O atoms of an adjoining mol-ecule. There is extensive intra- and inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the coordinated water and acetate ligands and the methanol solvent mol-ecules. In addition, there are weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions, which link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional array.

An ethanol solvent mol-ecule is also found in the asymmetric unit. The structure displays O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

The Zn(II) ion and solvent water mol-ecule are located on a twofold rotation axis. The structure displays inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Zn(C(19)H(16)Cl(4)N(2)O(2))(H(2)O)], comprises two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. The geometry around the Zn(II) atoms is distorted trigonal-bipyramidal, supported by the N(2)O(2) donor atoms of the tetradentate Schiff base and a coordinating water mol-ecule. The dihedral angles between the benzene rings in the two mol-ecules are 34.10?(15)?Å and 30.61?(15)?Å. In the crystal, neighbouring independent mol-ecules are linked by pairs of O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming dimers with R(2) (2)(6) ring motifs, and by O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. There are short Cl?Cl [3.4728?(16), 3.4863?(16), and 3.388?(1)?Å] contacts present, and mol-ecules are also linked by C-H?O and ?-? [centroid-centroid distance = 3.671?(2)?Å] inter-actions.

The central cobalt ion is situated on an inversion centre and is in an all-oxygen environment, coordinated by four phenolate O atoms and two O atoms from bridging acetate groups, while the terminal cobalt ion is hexa-coordinated by two phenolate O atoms, two acetate O atoms and two imine N atoms. This complex contains a high-spin central Co(II) and two terminal low-spin Co(III)i.e. Co(III)(S = 0)-Co(II)(S = 3/2)-Co(III)(S = 0). There are weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions involving the meth-oxy groups, as well as inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions involving the acetate anions. In addition, the dichoromethane solvate mol-ecules are held in place by weak C-H⋯Cl inter-actions.

The Zn(II)Pb(II) dinuclear unit, through an inversion-symmetry operation, forms a tetra-meric complex with double chloride bridges.
