ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(16)H(19)NO(5), which was synthesized from p-meth-oxy-cinnamic acid, has intra-molecular O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds and aromatic ?-? stacking inter-actions [minimum ring centroid-centroid separation = 3.790?(1)?Å].

Project description:The title compound, C21H24O9, crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit which are almost centrosymmetrically related to each other. The ethano-ate group in one of the two mol-ecules is disordered over two positions with a site-occupation factor of 0.880?(7) for the major occupied site. In the crystal, the 1,3-diketone group exists in the keto-enol isomeric form due to the stabilizing effect of the intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond present in this form. The compound packs as a layered structure in which C-H?? and C-H?O inter-actions are present within and between the layers.

Intra-molecular N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions are present in both molecules. In the crystal, one of the mol-ecule types is linked through inter-molecular hy-droxy-ketone O-H?O inter-actions, forming one-dimensional chains extending along [010], whereas the other mol-ecule type shows no associations.
