Lithium bis-(2-methyl-lactato)borate monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound {systematic name: poly[[aqua-lithium]-?-3,3,8,8-tetra-methyl-1,4,6,9-tetra-oxa-5?(4)-borataspiro-[4.4]nonane-2,7-dione]}, [Li(C(8)H(12)BO(6))(H(2)O)](n) (LiBMLB), forms a 12-membered macrocycle, which lies across a crystallographic inversion center. The lithium cations are pseudo-tetra-hedrally coordinated by three methyl-lactate ligands and a water mol-ecule. The asymmetric units couple across crystallographic inversion centers, forming the 12-membered macrocycles. These macrocycles, in turn, cross-link through the Li(+) cations, forming an infinite polymeric structure in two dimensions parallel to (101).

Elucidating the Reduction Mechanism of Lithium Bis(oxalato)borate.

Project description:Electrolyte additives are indispensable to enhance the performance of Li-ion batteries. Lithium bis(oxalato)borate (LiBOB) has been explored for many years, as it improves both cathode and anode performance. No consensus regarding its reaction mechanisms has, however, been established. A model operando study combining attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM), and online electrochemical mass spectrometry (OEMS) is herein presented to elucidate LiBOB reduction and electrode/electrolyte interphases thus formed. Reduction of the BOB- ion sets in at ∼1.8 V with solid lithium oxalate and soluble oxalatoborates as the main products. The reduced BOB- ion also reacts with itself and its environment to evolve CO2, which in turn impacts the interphase formed on the negative electrode. This study provides further insights into the reduction pathways of LiBOB and how they contribute to the interphase formation.

Project description:The title compound, Li(+)·C(2)BF(2)O(4) (-)·2C(4)H(8)O(2)S, is a dimeric species, which resides across a crystallographic inversion center. The dimers form eight-membered rings containing two Li(+) cations, which are joined by O(2)S sulfone linkages. The Li(+) cations are ligated by four O atoms from the anions and solvent mol-ecules, forming a pseudo-tetra-hedral geometry. The exocyclic coordination sites are occupied by O atoms from the oxalate group of the difluoro-(oxalato)borate anion and an additional tetra-methyl-ene sulfone ligand.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title hydrated salt, 2C(4)H(12)N(+)·C(2)O(4) (2-)·H(2)O, the two independent cations, the anion and the water mol-ecule all lie on special positions of m site symmetry. In both cations, the mirror plane passes through the nitrogen atom and two methyl groups; in the anion, the mirror plane passes through two carbon and two oxygen atoms. The anions and water mol-ecules inter-act by O-H?O hydrogen bonding, forming a chain running along the b axis.

Adjacent chains are further connected into a three-dimensional structure by O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The water mol-ecules and potassium cations are located between these chains. Further O-H?O hydrogen bonds occur between the anions and the water mol-ecules.

Lithium bis-catechol borate as an effective reductive quencher in photoredox catalysis.

Project description:The use of lithium bis-catechol borate (LiB(cat)2) as a reductive quencher for the photoredox mediated intermolecular C-H functionalization of various heteroaromatics with bromopyrroloindolines is described. LiB(cat)2 offers a financial benefit over state-of-the-art quenchers currently in use while eliminating the side reactions that typically plague these couplings. The advantage of this methodology is highlighted by the synthesis of C3-C2' (-) gliocladin C. Furthermore, additional examples of reactivity with various bromopyrroloindolines sets the stage for expedient routes towards other pharmaceutically active hexahydropyrroloindoline alkaloids and their analogues.

Project description:In the title Zn(II) complex, [Zn(C(8)H(8)NO(2))(2)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O, the Zn atom is coordinated by two 4-methyl-amino-benzoate (MAB) and two isonicotinamide (INA) ligands in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry; one of the MAB ions acts as a bidentate ligand while the other MAB and the two INA are monodentate ligands. The dihedral angles between the carboxyl groups and the adjacent benzene rings are 8.52 (22) and 5.10 (14)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding links the mol-ecules into a supra-molecular structure. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions are also present.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title salt, C(44)H(38)P(2) (2+)2BF(4) (-), consists of discrete dications inter-laced with the BF(4) (-) counter-ions. In each cation, both phospho-nium groups lie on the same side of the plane of the central benzene ring. The tetra-fluoro-borate anions are involved in intensive thermal motion, thus some B-F bond lengths [range 1.329 (6) to 1.391 (6) Å] deviate significantly from their standard values.

A pair of bis-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl) selenide ligands bridges the Cu(II) centres into a chain extending along the c axis. The water mol-ecules, anions and triphenyl-phosphine oxide mol-ecules are involved in inter-molecular hydrogen bonding, which links the chains into a three-dimensional network.
