ABSTRACT: In the title Schiff base compound, C(13)H(9)Cl(2)NO, the mol-ecule displays an E conformation about the imine C=N double bond, with a dihedral angle of 8.09?(11)° between the two benzene rings. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by a single O-H?O hydrogen bond, giving one-dimensional chains which extend along (100).

Project description:The title complex, [Ni(C20H14ClN3O)], with an asymmetrically chloride-appended Schiff base ligand has been synthesized and structurally characterized at 100 K. In the compound, the central nickel(II) ion has a square-planar coordination geometry with N3O donors of the π-conjugated tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand. In the crystal, the complexes are connected into an inversion dimer via an Ni⋯Ni inter-action [3.1753 (5) Å] and a pair of π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.8416 (16) Å]. The dimers are linked via a C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bond, forming a chain along the c-axis direction. The dimer chains inter-act with each other through π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.8736 (16) Å], forming a layer expanding parallel to the ac plane.

Project description:The title Schiff base compound, C15H15N3O3, crystallizes with two mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. Each mol-ecule adopts an E conformation around the C= N imine bond. The two mol-ecules have minor differences in their conformations. In mol-ecule A, the dihedral angle between the nitro group and its benzene ring is 2.1?(2)° and that between the two benzene rings is 0.88?(7)°, while the corresponding angles for mol-ecule B are 5.7?(1) and 2.45?(6)°, respectively. The dimers are further linked by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions and another π-π inter-action [centroid-centroid distance of 3.9452 (9) Å] into layers lying parallel to the ab plane.
