Tris(1,10-phenanthroline-?(2) N,N')ruthenium(II) bis-(perchlorate).

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ru(C12H8N2)3](ClO4)2, contains one octahedrally coordinated Ru(II) cation of the ruthenium-phenanthroline complex and three differently occupied perchlorate anions: two, denoted A and B, are located on the twofold axis while another, denoted C, is positioned in the proximity of the twofold screw axis. Perchlorate anions B and C are severely disordered. The occupancies of the two major conformers of anion B refined to 0.302?(6) and 0.198?(6). Perchlorate ion C was modeled in two alternate conformations which refined to occupancies of 0.552?(10) and 0.448?(10).

The complex and anions are disposed about a crystallographic mirror plane parallel to the ac plane passing through the Pt and Cl atoms. In the complex, the Pt(II) ion lies in a distorted square-planar environment defined by four N atoms of the chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and two distinct acetonitrile mol-ecules. The component ions inter-act by means of inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The [Ag(CN)(2)](-) anions are situated within cavities created by the phenanthroline ligands of adjacent [Ni(phen)(3)](2+) cations. Some short C-H?O and C-H?N inter-actions may help to establish the packing.

Project description:The title compound, [Ru(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(C(13)H(7)N(3)S)](PF(6))(2)·CH(3)CN, was synthesized by the reaction of thio-phosgene and bis-(2,2'-bipyridine)(1,10-phenanthrolin-5-amine)ruthenium(II) bis-(hexa-fluoridophosphate). The Ru(II) atom adopts a slightly distorted octa-hedral RuN(6) coordinaton formed by four N atoms of two bipyridine ligands and by two N atoms of the 1,10-phenantroline ligand. The isothio-cyanate group is almost linear, with an N-C-S angle of 174.4?(6)°. Two of the three hexa-fluoridophosphate counter-anions are located on inversion centres.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(C(12)H(8)N(2))(3)](C(7)H(4)BrO(2))(2)·6.5H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by six N atoms from three 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The chelating phen ligands exhibit nearly perfect coplanarity (r.m.s. deviations of 0.048, 0.039 and 0.061 Å). The mean inter-planar distances of 3.51 (2) and 3.54 (4) Å between adjacent phen ligands indicate π-π stacking inter-actions, which connect the complex cations into chains along [101]. The 4-bromo-benzoate anions and the uncoordinated water mol-ecules, parts of which are not fully occupied, are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Two carboxyl-ate O atoms and one Br atom in the 4-bromo-benzoate anions are each disordered over two sites with occupancy factors of 0.60 and 0.40.
