Nectins are Ca(2+)-independent immunoglobulin (Ig)-like cell-cell adhesion molecules. The trans-interactions of nectins recruit cadherins to the nectin-based cell-cell adhesion, resulting in formation of cell-cell adherens junctions (AJs) in epithelial cells and fibroblasts.
