ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C22H16N2O6, the naphthalene ring systems form a dihedral angle of 65.2?(1)°. Two O atoms of one of the nitro groups are disordered over two sets of sites with occupancy factors of 0.586?(15) and 0.414?(15). Weak C-H?O inter-molecular inter-actions are present, forming a ladder like structure along the a axis.

The mol-ecular conformation is characterized by a roughly coplanar arrangement of the two substituted phenyl rings [dihedral angle 18.53?(5)°]. These two aryl rings are each twisted by 65.40?(5)° from the plane of the naphthyl unit.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C11H9NO3, contains two mol-ecules, A and B. In mol-ecule A, the dihedral angle between the planes of the naphthalene ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.003 Å) and the nitro group is 89.9 (2)°, and the C atom of the meth-oxy group deviates from the naphthyl plane by 0.022 (2) Å. Equivalent data for mol-ecule B are 0.008 Å, 65.9 (2)° and -0.198 (2) Å, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming [100] chains of alternating A and B mol-ecules. Weak aromatic π-π stacking contacts, with a range of centroid-centroid distances from 3.5863 (9) to 3.8048 (9) Å, are also observed.

Project description:A nearly orthogonal relationship is found for the ring systems in the title compound, C(15)H(10)N(2)O(3), with the dihedral angle between the rings being 86.13?(11)°. The nitro group is approximately coplanar with the pyridine ring to which it is connected [the O-N-C-C torsion angle = -1.8?(4)°]. This coplanarity allows for the close approach of these residues in the crystal structure enabling the formation of N-O??(pyridine) inter-actions [3.547?(4)?Å]. Further consolidation of the crystal packing is afforded by weak ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.9576?(16) and 3.9822?(16)?Å].

Project description:The title naphthalene derivative, C24H20O2, features 4-methy-oxy-substituted benzene rings in the 1 and 4 positions of the naphthalene ring system. There are two crystallographically independent mol-ecules (A and B) in asymmetric unit. The independent mol-ecules have very similar conformations in which the naphthalene ring systems are only slightly bent, exhibiting dihedral angles between the constituent benzene rings of 3.76 (15) and 3.39 (15)° for A and B, respectively. The pendent 4-methyoxybenzene rings are splayed out of the plane through the naphthalene ring system to which they are connected [range of dihedral angles = 59.63 (13) to 67.09 (13)°]. In the crystal, the mol-ecular packing is consolidated by inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions, leading to supra-molecular chains along the b axis. The chains assemble without directional inter-actions between them.
