The porous diaphragm syndrome is associated with the presence of diaphragmatic fenestrations creating peritoneopleural communications. Such defects may occur in conditions associated with a rise on intra-abdominal pressure including laparoscopic surgery. Thoracic complications of laparoscopic surgery may occur as a result.
