Project description:We obtain some fixed point theorems for two pairs of hybrid mappings using hybrid tangential property and quadratic type contractive condition. Our results generalize some results by Babu and Alemayehu and those contained therein. In the sequel, we introduce a new notion to generalize occasionally weak compatibility. Moreover, two concrete examples are established to illuminate the generality of our results.

Project description:Azam et al. (2011), introduce the notion of complex valued metric spaces and obtained common fixed point result for mappings in the context of complex valued metric spaces. Rao et al. (2013) introduce the notion of complex valued b-metric spaces. In this paper, we generalize the results of Azam et al. (2011), and Bhatt et al. (2011), by improving the conditions of contraction to establish the existence and uniqueness of common fixed point for two self-mappings on complex valued b-metric spaces. Some examples are given to illustrate the main results.

Project description:In this paper, inspired by Jitsupa et al. (J. Comput. Appl. Math. 318:293–306, 2017), we propose a general iterative scheme for finding a solution of a split monotone variational inclusion with the constraints of a variational inequality and a fixed point problem of a finite family of strict pseudo-contractions in real Hilbert spaces. Under very mild conditions, we prove a strong convergence theorem for this iterative scheme. Our result improves and extends the corresponding ones announced by some others in the earlier and recent literature.

Project description:Reference point indentation (RPI) was developed as a novel method to assess mechanical properties of bone in vivo, yet it remains unclear what aspects of bone dictate changes/differences in RPI-based parameters. The main RPI parameter, indentation distance increase (IDI), has been proposed to be inversely related to the ability of bone to form/tolerate damage. The goal of this work was to explore the relationshipre-intervention RPI measurebetween RPI parameters and traditional mechanical properties under varying experimental conditions (drying and ashing bones to increase brittleness, demineralizing bones and soaking in raloxifene to decrease brittleness). Beams were machined from cadaveric bone, pre-tested with RPI, subjected to experimental manipulation, post-tested with RPI, and then subjected to four-point bending to failure. Drying and ashing significantly reduced RPI's IDI, as well as ultimate load (UL), and energy absorption measured from bending tests. Demineralization increased IDI with minimal change to bending properties. Ex vivo soaking in raloxifene had no effect on IDI but tended to enhance post-yield behavior at the structural level. These data challenge the paradigm of an inverse relationship between IDI and bone toughness, both through correlation analyses and in the individual experiments where divergent patterns of altered IDI and mechanical properties were noted. Based on these results, we conclude that RPI measurements alone, as compared to bending tests, are insufficient to reach conclusions regarding mechanical properties of bone. This proves problematic for the potential clinical use of RPI measurements in determining fracture risk for a single patient, as it is not currently clear that there is an IDI, or even a trend of IDI, that can determine clinically relevant changes in tissue properties that may contribute to whole bone fracture resistance.

Project description:In this paper, we establish a new iterative algorithm by combining Nadezhkina and Takahashi’s modified extragradient method and Xu’s algorithm. The mentioned iterative algorithm presents the common solution of the split variational inequality problems and fixed point problems. We show that the sequence produced by our algorithm is weakly convergent. Finally, we give some applications of the main results. This article extends the previous results in this area.

Project description:Reversal learning tasks assess behavioral flexibility by requiring subjects to switch from one learned response choice to a different response choice when task contingencies change. This requires both the processing of negative feedback once a learned response is no longer reinforced, and the capacity for flexible response selection. In 2-choice reversal learning tasks, subjects switch between only two responses. Multiple choice reversal learning is qualitatively different in that at reversal, it requires subjects to respond to non-reinforcement of a learned response by selecting a new response from among several alternatives that have uncertain consequences. While activity in brain regions responsible for processing unexpected negative feedback is known to increase in relation to the hedonic value of the reward itself, it is not known whether the uncertainty of reinforcement for future response choices also modulates these responses. In an fMRI study, 15 participants performed 2- and 4-choice reversal learning tasks. Upon reversal in both tasks, activation was observed in brain regions associated with processing changing reinforcement contingencies (midbrain, ventral striatum, insula), as well as in neocortical regions that support cognitive control and behavioral planning (prefrontal, premotor, posterior parietal, and anterior cingulate cortices). Activation in both systems was greater in the 4- than in the 2-choice task. Therefore, reinforcement uncertainty for future responses enhanced activity in brain systems that process performance feedback, as well as in areas supporting behavioral planning of future response choices. A mutually facilitative integration of responses in motivational and cognitive brain systems might enhance behavioral flexibility and decision making in conditions for which outcomes for future response choices are uncertain.

Project description:Genomic outcomes of hybridization depend on selection and recombination in hybrids. Whether these processes have similar effects on hybrid genome composition in contemporary hybrid zones versus ancient hybrid lineages is unknown. Here we show that patterns of introgression in a contemporary hybrid zone in Lycaeides butterflies predict patterns of ancestry in geographically adjacent, older hybrid populations. We find a particularly striking lack of ancestry from one of the hybridizing taxa, Lycaeides melissa, on the Z chromosome in both the old and contemporary hybrids. The same pattern of reduced L. melissa ancestry on the Z chromosome is seen in two other ancient hybrid lineages. More generally, we find that patterns of ancestry in old or ancient hybrids are remarkably predictable from contemporary hybrids, which suggests selection and recombination affect hybrid genomes in a similar way across disparate time scales and during distinct stages of speciation and species breakdown.

Project description:In this investigation, a hybrid-biocomposite "ZnO-Bentonite/Chitosan" was synthesized using inexpensive and environmentally friendly materials (Bentonitechitosan) and (ZnO). It was used as a photocatalyst for water remediation. The structural, optical, thermal, and morphological properties of the synthesized hybrid-biocomposite were investigated using XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, TGA, XPS, and SEM-EDS. The thermal measurements showed that the decomposition of CS was postponed progressively by adding PB and ZnO, and the thermal stability of the synthesized hybrid-biocomposite was improved. The characterization results highlighted strong interactions between the C-O, C=O, -NH2, and OH groups of chitosan and the alumina-silica sheets of bentonite on the one side, and between the functional groups of chitosan (-NH2, OH) and ZnO on the other side. The photocatalytic efficiency of the prepared hybrid-biocomposite was assessed in the presence of Methyl Orange (MO). The experiments carried out in the dark showed that the MO removal increased in the presence of Zn-PB/CS hybrid-biocomposite (86.1%) by comparison with PB (75.8%) and CS (65.4%) materials. The photocatalytic experiments carried out under visible light showed that the MO removal increased 268 times in the presence of Zn-PB/CS by comparison withZnO.The holes trapping experiments indicated that they are the main oxidative active species involved in the MO degradation under both UV-A and visible light irradiations.
