Project description:This paper proposes a channel selection scheme for the multiuser, multichannel cognitive radio networks. This scheme formulates the channel selection as the multiarmed bandit problem, where cognitive radio users are compared to the players and channels to the arms. By simulation negotiation we can achieve the potential reward on each channel after it is selected for transmission; then the channel with the maximum accumulated rewards is formally chosen. To further improve the performance, the trust model is proposed and combined with multi-armed bandit to address the channel selection problem. Simulation results validate the proposed scheme.

Project description:The Global Positioning System (GPS) is unable to provide precise localization services indoors, which has led to wireless sensor network (WSN) localization technology becoming a hot research issue in the field of indoor location. At present, the ranging technology of wireless sensor networks based on received signal strength has been extensively used in indoor positioning. However, wireless signals have serious multipath effects in indoor environments. In order to reduce the adverse influence of multipath effects on distance estimation between nodes, a multi-channel ranging localization algorithm based on signal diversity is herein proposed. In real indoor environments, the parameters used for multi-channel localization algorithms are generally unknown or time-varying. In order to increase the positioning accuracy of the multi-channel location algorithm in a multipath environment, we propose an optimal multi-channel trilateration positioning algorithm (OMCT) by establishing a novel multi-objective evolutionary model. The presented algorithm utilizes a three-edge constraint to prevent the traditional multi-channel localization algorithm falling into local optima. The results of a large number of practical experiments and numerical simulations show that no matter how the channel number and multipath number change, the positioning error of our presented algorithm is always smaller compared with that of the state-of-the-art algorithm.

Project description:Recently, pattern-recognition-based protein sensing has received considerable attention because it offers unique opportunities that complement more conventional antibody-based detection methods. Here, we report a multichannel pattern-recognition-based sensor using a set of fluorophore-conjugated single-stranded DNAs (ssDNAs), which can detect various proteins. Three different fluorophore-conjugated ssDNAs were placed into a single microplate well together with a target protein, and the generated optical response pattern that corresponds to each environment-sensitive fluorophore was read via multiple detection channels. Multivariate analysis of the resulting optical response patterns allowed an accurate detection of eight different proteases, indicating that fluorescence signal acquisition from a single compartment containing a mixture of ssDNAs is an effective strategy for the characterization of the target proteins. Additionally, the sensor could identify proteins, which are potential targets for disease diagnosis, in a protease and inhibitor mixture of different composition ratios. As our sensor benefits from simple construction and measurement procedures, and uses accessible materials, it offers a rapid and simple platform for the detection of proteins.

Project description:Privacy concerns are widely discussed in research and society in general. For the public infrastructure of financial blockchains, this discussion encompasses the privacy of the originator of a transaction broadcasted on the underlying peer-to-peer network. Adaptive diffusion is an approach to expose an alternative source of a message to attackers. However, this approach assumes an unsuitable attacker model and a non-realistic network model for current peer-to-peer networks on the Internet. We transform adaptive diffusion into a new statistical privacy-preserving broadcast protocol for realistic current networks. We model a class of unstructured peer-to-peer networks as organically growing graphs and provide models for other classes of such networks. We show that the distribution of shortest paths can be modelled using a normal distribution [Formula: see text]. We determine statistical estimators for μ, σ via multivariate models. The model behaves logarithmic over the number of nodes n and proportional to an inverse exponential over the number of added edges per node k. These results facilitate the computation of optimal forwarding probabilities during the dissemination phase for maximum privacy, with participants having only limited information about network topology.

Project description:The wireless networks face challenges in efficient utilization of bandwidth due to paucity of resources and lack of central management, which may result in undesired congestion. The cognitive radio (CR) paradigm can bring efficiency, better utilization of bandwidth, and appropriate management of limited resources. While the CR paradigm is an attractive choice, the CRs selfishly compete to acquire and utilize available bandwidth that may ultimately result in inappropriate power levels, causing degradation in network's Quality of Service (QoS). A cooperative game theoretic approach can ease the problem of spectrum sharing and power utilization in a hostile and selfish environment. We focus on the challenge of congestion control that results in inadequate and uncontrolled access of channels and utilization of resources. The Nash equilibrium (NE) of a cooperative congestion game is examined by considering the cost basis, which is embedded in the utility function. The proposed algorithm inhibits the utility, which leads to the decrease in aggregate cost and global function maximization. The cost dominance is a pivotal agent for cooperation in CRs that results in efficient power allocation. Simulation results show reduction in power utilization due to improved management in cognitive radio resource allocation.

Project description:Cognitive radio networks (CRN) enable wireless devices to sense the radio spectrum, determine the frequency state channels, and reconfigure the communication variables to satisfy Quality of Service (QoS) needs by reducing energy utilization. In CRN, spectrum sensing is an essential process that is highly challenging and can be addressed by several traditional techniques, such as energy detection, match filtering, etc. For now, the current models' performance is impacted by the comparatively low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of recognized signals and the insignificant quantity of traditional signal samples. This research proposals a new spectral sensing technique for cognitive radio networks (SST-CRN) that addresses the drawbacks of predictable energy detection models. With the use of a deep belief network (DBN), the suggested model contributes to accomplish a nonlinear threshold based on the chicken swarm algorithm (CSA). The proposed DBN enabled SST-CRN technique goes through two phases in a organized process: offline and online. Throughout the offline phase, the DBN model is methodically trained on pre-gathered data, developing the aptitude to identify problematic patterns and examples from the spectral features of the radio environment. This stage involves extensive feature extraction, validation, and model development to ensure that the DBN can professionally represent complicated spectral dynamics. Additionally, online spectrum sensing is conducted during the real communication phase to enable real-time adaptation to dynamic changes in the spectrum environment. Offline spectrum sensing is typically performed during a devoted sensing period before actual communication begins. When combined with DBN's deep learning capabilities and CSO's innate nature-inspired algorithms, a synergistic framework is created that enables CRNs to explore and allocate incidences on their own with astonishing accuracy. The proposed solution considerably improves the spectrum efficiency and resilience of CRNs by harnessing the power of DBN, which leads to more effective resource utilization and less interference. The Simulation results show that our proposed strategy produces more accurate spectrum occupancy assessments. The result parameters such as probability of detection, SNR of -24dB, the SST-CRN perfect has increased a developed Pd of 0.810, whereas the existing methods RMLSSCRN-100 and RMLSSCRN-300 have accomplished a lower Pd of 0.577 and 0.736, respectively. Our deep learning methodology uses convolutional neural networks to automatically learn and adapt to dynamic and complicated radio environments, improving accuracy and flexibility over classic spectrum sensing approaches. Future research might focus on improving CSO algorithms to better optimize the spectrum sensing process, enhancing the reliability of DBN-enabled sensing techniques.

Project description:The rapid development in the area of cognitive radio technology leads the society to higher standards of spectrum sensing performance, particularly in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environment. This article proposes an adaptive double-threshold energy sensing method based on Markov model (ADEMM). When using the double-threshold energy sensing method, the modified Markov model that accounts for the time varying characteristic of the channel occupancy was presented to resolve the 'confused' channel state. Furthermore, in order to overcome the effect of noise uncertainty, the findings of this article introduce an adaptive double-threshold spectrum sensing method that adjusts its thresholds according to the achievable maximal detection probability. Numerical simulations show that the proposed ADEMM achieves better detection performance than the conventional double-threshold energy sensing schemes, especially in very low SNR region.

Project description:Infections caused by bacterial biofilms are challenging to diagnose because of the complexity of both the bacteria and the heterogeneous biofilm matrix. We report here a robust polymer-based sensor array that uses selective interactions between polymer sensor elements and the biofilm matrix to identify bacteria species. In this array, an appropriate choice of fluorophore enabled excimer formation and interpolymer FRET, generating six output channels from three polymers. Selective multivalent interactions of these polymers with the biofilm matrices caused differential changes in fluorescent patterns, providing a species-based signature of the biofilm. The real-world potential of the platform was further validated through identification of mixed-species bacterial biofilms and discrimination of biofilms in a mammalian cell-biofilm co-culture wound model.

Project description:Cognitive radio (CR) is a promising technology for improving usage of frequency band. Cognitive radio users (CUs) are allowed to use the bands without interference in operation of licensed users. Reliable sensing information about status of licensed band is a prerequirement for CR network. Cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) is able to offer an improved sensing reliability compared to individual sensing. However, the sensing performance of CSS can be destroyed due to the appearance of some malicious users. In this paper, we propose a goodness-of-fit (GOF) based cooperative spectrum sensing scheme to detect the dissimilarity between sensing information of normal CUs and that of malicious users, and reject their harmful effect to CSS. The empirical CDF will be used in GOF test to determine the measured distance between distributions of observation sample set according to each hypothesis of licensed user signal. Further, the DS theory is used to combine results of multi-GOF tests. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can protect the sensing process against the attack from malicious users.

Project description:The transport of particles and fluids through multichannel microfluidic networks is influenced by details of the channels. Because channels have micro-scale textures and macro-scale geometries, this transport can differ from the case of ideally smooth channels. Surfaces of real channels have irregular boundary conditions to which streamlines adapt and with which particle interact. In low-Reynolds number flows, particles may experience inertial forces that result in trans-streamline movement and the reorganization of particle distributions. Such transport is intrinsically 3D and an accurate measurement must capture movement in all directions. To measure the effects of non-ideal surface textures on particle transport through complex networks, we developed an extended field-of-view 3D macroscope for high-resolution tracking across large volumes ([Formula: see text]) and investigated a model multichannel microfluidic network. A topographical profile of the microfluidic surfaces provided lattice Boltzmann simulations with a detailed feature map to precisely reconstruct the experimental environment. Particle distributions from simulations closely reproduced those observed experimentally and both measurements were sensitive to the effects of surface roughness. Under the conditions studied, inertial focusing organized large particles into an annular distribution that limited their transport throughout the network while small particles were transported uniformly to all regions.
