AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a heterotrimeric kinase that regulates cellular energy metabolism by affecting energy-consuming pathways such as de novo lipid biosynthesis and glucose production as well as energy-producing pathways such as lipid oxidation and glucose uptake.
