Fixed point results for G-α-contractive maps with application to boundary value problems.

ABSTRACT: We unify the concepts of G-metric, metric-like, and b-metric to define new notion of generalized b-metric-like space and discuss its topological and structural properties. In addition, certain fixed point theorems for two classes of G-α -admissible contractive mappings in such spaces are obtained and some new fixed point results are derived in corresponding partially ordered space. Moreover, some examples and an application to the existence of a solution for the first-order periodic boundary value problem are provided here to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.

Nonlinear two-point boundary value problems: applications to a cholera epidemic model.

Project description:This paper is concerned primarily with constructive mathematical analysis of a general system of nonlinear two-point boundary value problem when an empirically constructed candidate for an approximate solution (quasi-solution) satisfies verifiable conditions. A local analysis in a neighbour- hood of a quasi-solution assures the existence and uniqueness of solutions and, at the same time, provides error bounds for approximate solutions. Applying this method to a cholera epidemic model, we obtain an analytical approximation of the steady-state solution with rigorous error bounds that also displays dependence on a parameter. In connection with this epidemic model, we also analyse the basic reproduction number, an important threshold quantity in the epidemiology context. Through a complex analytic approach, we determine the principal eigenvalue to be real and positive in a range of parameter values.

Analysis of tangential contact boundary value problems using potential functions.

Project description:This paper presents an analysis technique of high-order contact potential problems and its application to an elastic settlement analysis of a shallow foundation system subjected to a combined traction boundary condition. Closed-form solutions of potential functions are derived for an elastic half-space subjected to bilinear tangential traction boundary conditions over rectangular surface regions. Using the principle of superposition, the present solutions provide a means to form an approximate and continuous solution of elastic contact problems with higher-order tangential boundary conditions. As an application example, an elastic settlement analysis of a rigid footing founded on a dense granular soil is performed under a tangential traction boundary condition prescribed in an analogy with the stress equilibrium states of static sandpiles. A generalized solution approach to combined normal and tangential traction boundary value problems is discussed in the context of foundation engineering.

DeepGreen: deep learning of Green's functions for nonlinear boundary value problems.

Project description:Boundary value problems (BVPs) play a central role in the mathematical analysis of constrained physical systems subjected to external forces. Consequently, BVPs frequently emerge in nearly every engineering discipline and span problem domains including fluid mechanics, electromagnetics, quantum mechanics, and elasticity. The fundamental solution, or Green's function, is a leading method for solving linear BVPs that enables facile computation of new solutions to systems under any external forcing. However, fundamental Green's function solutions for nonlinear BVPs are not feasible since linear superposition no longer holds. In this work, we propose a flexible deep learning approach to solve nonlinear BVPs using a dual-autoencoder architecture. The autoencoders discover an invertible coordinate transform that linearizes the nonlinear BVP and identifies both a linear operator L and Green's function G which can be used to solve new nonlinear BVPs. We find that the method succeeds on a variety of nonlinear systems including nonlinear Helmholtz and Sturm-Liouville problems, nonlinear elasticity, and a 2D nonlinear Poisson equation and can solve nonlinear BVPs at orders of magnitude faster than traditional methods without the need for an initial guess. The method merges the strengths of the universal approximation capabilities of deep learning with the physics knowledge of Green's functions to yield a flexible tool for identifying fundamental solutions to a variety of nonlinear systems.

Algorithms for the common solution of the split variational inequality problems and fixed point problems with applications.

Project description:In this paper, we establish a new iterative algorithm by combining Nadezhkina and Takahashi’s modified extragradient method and Xu’s algorithm. The mentioned iterative algorithm presents the common solution of the split variational inequality problems and fixed point problems. We show that the sequence produced by our algorithm is weakly convergent. Finally, we give some applications of the main results. This article extends the previous results in this area.

Universal natural shapes: from unifying shape description to simple methods for shape analysis and boundary value problems.

Project description:Gielis curves and surfaces can describe a wide range of natural shapes and they have been used in various studies in biology and physics as descriptive tool. This has stimulated the generalization of widely used computational methods. Here we show that proper normalization of the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm allows for efficient and robust reconstruction of Gielis curves, including self-intersecting and asymmetric curves, without increasing the overall complexity of the algorithm. Then, we show how complex curves of k-type can be constructed and how solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation on these complex domains can be derived using a semi-Fourier method. In all three methods, descriptive and computational power and efficiency is obtained in a surprisingly simple way.

Linel2D-Net: A deep learning approach to solving 2D linear elastic boundary value problems on image domains.

Project description:Efficient solution of physical boundary value problems (BVPs) remains a challenging task demanded in many applications. Conventional numerical methods require time-consuming domain discretization and solving techniques that have limited throughput capabilities. Here, we present an efficient data-driven DNN approach to non-iterative solving arbitrary 2D linear elastic BVPs. Our results show that a U-Net-based surrogate model trained on a representative set of reference FDM solutions can accurately emulate linear elastic material behavior with manifold applications in deformable modeling and simulation.
