Project description:We investigate the matrix equation X - AXB = C. For convenience, the matrix equation X - AXB = C is named as Kalman-Yakubovich-conjugate matrix equation. The explicit solution is constructed when the above matrix equation has unique solution. And this solution is stated as a polynomial of coefficient matrices of the matrix equation. Moreover, the explicit solution is also expressed by the symmetric operator matrix, controllability matrix, and observability matrix. The proposed approach does not require the coefficient matrices to be in arbitrary canonical form. At the end of this paper, the numerical example is shown to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Project description:A stable numerical method is proposed for matrix inversion. The new method is accompanied by theoretical proof to illustrate twelfth-order convergence. A discussion of how to achieve the convergence using an appropriate initial value is presented. The application of the new scheme for finding Moore-Penrose inverse will also be pointed out analytically. The efficiency of the contributed iterative method is clarified on solving some numerical examples.

Project description:The dataset comprises RNA-seq information of human embryonic stem cell derived pancreatic progenitors and their proliferating cells cultured in defined condition. Total RNA of each sample was isolated, labelled, and purified by standard chemistry. Sequencing libraries were prepared from 250ng of purified total mRNA using NEBNext Ultra II RNA Library Prep Kit for Illumina (NEB). Single-read RNA-sequencing was performed using the NextSeq 500 (Illumina) with 75 High Output Kit (Illumina, FC-404-2005).

Project description:A transmission matrix (TM), a characteristic response for an input-output relation of an optical system, has been used for achieving diffraction-limited and aberration-free images through highly-aberrant imaging systems. However, its requirement of acquiring a huge-size TM along with its heavy computational load limit its widespread applications. Here we propose a method for TM-based image reconstruction, which is more efficient in terms of data manipulation and computational time. Only 10% of the TM elements for a fish-eye (FE) lens with strong aberration were sampled compared to that required for the image reconstruction by the conventional inversion method. The missing information was filled in by an iterative interpolation algorithm working in k-space. In addition, as a replacement of the time-consuming matrix inversion process, a phase pattern was created from the minimally sampled TM in order to compensate for the angle-dependent phase retardation caused by the FE lens. The focal distortion could be corrected by applying the phase correction pattern to the angular spectrums of the measured object images. The remaining spatial distortion could also be determined through the geometrical transformation also determined by the minimally sampled TM elements. Through the use of these procedures, the object image can be reconstructed 55 times faster than through the use of the usual inversion method using the full-sized TM, without compromising the reconstruction performances.

Project description:This paper aims to obtain the approximate solution of time-fractional advection-dispersion equation (FADE) involving Jumarie's modification of Riemann-Liouville derivative by the fractional variational iteration method (FVIM). FVIM provides an analytical approximate solution in the form of a convergent series. Some examples are given and the results indicate that the FVIM is of high accuracy, more efficient, and more convenient for solving time FADEs.

Project description:The X-ray structure of the homodimeric chaperone CesT is the only structure among the type three secretion system (TTSS) chaperones that shows a domain swap. This swap has potential importance for the mechanism of effector translocation through a TTSS. Here we present two nuclear magnetic resonance strategies exploiting pre-existing structural models and residual dipolar couplings (RDCs), which reveal the unswapped 35.4-kDa dimer to be present in solution. Particularly efficient is the discrimination of a swapped and unswapped structural state performed simultaneously to automatic backbone assignment using only HN-RDCs and carbonyl backbone chemical shifts. This direct approach may prove to be generally useful to rapidly differentiate two structural models.

Project description:Efron, Hastie, Johnstone and Tibshirani (2004) proposed Least Angle Regression (LAR), a solution path algorithm for the least squares regression. They pointed out that a slight modification of the LAR gives the LASSO (Tibshirani, 1996) solution path. However it is largely unknown how to extend this solution path algorithm to models beyond the least squares regression. In this work, we propose an extension of the LAR for generalized linear models and the quasi-likelihood model by showing that the corresponding solution path is piecewise given by solutions of ordinary differential equation systems. Our contribution is twofold. First, we provide a theoretical understanding on how the corresponding solution path propagates. Second, we propose an ordinary differential equation based algorithm to obtain the whole solution path.

Project description:Membrane proteins are difficult to work with due to their insolubility in aqueous solution and quite often their poor stability in detergent micelles. Here, we present the peptidisc for their facile capture into water-soluble particles. Unlike the nanodisc, which requires scaffold proteins of different lengths and precise amounts of matching lipids, reconstitution of detergent solubilized proteins in peptidisc only requires a short amphipathic bi-helical peptide (NSPr) and no extra lipids. Multiple copies of the peptide wrap around to shield the membrane-exposed part of the target protein. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this 'one size fits all' method using five different membrane protein assemblies (MalFGK2, FhuA, SecYEG, OmpF, BRC) during 'on-column', 'in-gel', and 'on-bead' reconstitution embedded within the membrane protein purification protocol. The peptidisc method is rapid and cost-effective, and it may emerge as a universal tool for high-throughput stabilization of membrane proteins to advance modern biological studies.

Project description:In this research, an unrivalled hybrid scheme which involves the coupling of the new Elzaki integral transform (an improved version of Laplace transform) and a modified differential transform called the projected differential transform (PDTM) have been implemented to solve the generalized Burgers-Fisher's equation; which springs up due to the fusion of the Burgers' and the Fisher's equation; describing convective effects, diffusion transport or interaction between reaction mechanisms, traffic flows; and turbulence; consequently finding meaningful applicability in the applied sciences viz: gas dynamics, fluid dynamics, turbulence theory, reaction-diffusion theory, shock-wave formation, traffic flows, financial mathematics, and so on. Using the proposed Elzaki projected differential transform method (EPDTM), a generalized exact solution (Solitary solution) in form of a Taylor multivariate series has been obtained; of which the highly nonlinear terms and derivatives handled by PDTM have been decomposed without expansion, computation of Adomian or He's polynomials, discretization, restriction of parameters, and with less computational work whilst achieving a highly convergent results when compared to other existing analytical/exact methods in the literature, via comparison tables, 3D plots, convergence plots and fluid-like plots. Thus showing the distinction, novelty and huge advantage of the proposed method as an asymptotic alternative, in providing generalized or solitary wave solution to a wider class of differential equations.

Project description:This paper deals with the Falkner-Skan nonlinear differential equation. An analytic approximate technique, namely, optimal homotopy asymptotic method (OHAM), is employed to propose a procedure to solve a boundary-layer problem. Our method does not depend upon small parameters and provides us with a convenient way to optimally control the convergence of the approximate solutions. The obtained results reveal that this procedure is very effective, simple, and accurate. A very good agreement was found between our approximate results and numerical solutions, which prove that OHAM is very efficient in practice, ensuring a very rapid convergence after only one iteration.
