A 60-year-old asymptomatic woman with pulmonary lesions and cervical lymphadenopathy.

ABSTRACT: A 60-year-old asymptomatic woman was referred to our hospital because of an abnormal chest roentgenogram during a routine medical checkup. The patient had no history of memorable infectious diseases, except a liver abscess caused by Serratia marcescens at age 46 years. Her son was diagnosed with chronic granulomatous disease at the age of 1 year. She had never smoked cigarettes and drank only occasionally.

An atypical presentation of a strangulated bochdalek hernia in a 60-year-old woman.

Project description:Bochdalek hernia (BH), resulting from the failure of posterolateral diaphragmatic foramina to fuse, is the most common congenital diaphragmatic hernia and usually manifests in pediatric age with life-threatening complications. Here, we report the case of a 60-year-old female with a left-sided Bochdalek diaphragmatic hernia, who presented with abdominal pain and dyspnea. The patient was successfully treated by open surgery approach but the patient died due to the lung doesnt expand after atelectasis in the third day after surgery. We know that a few cases of bochdalek hernia have been reported in the elderly by the medical literature, but what distinguishes our case is that the hernia was strangulated and the patient died as a result of non-expansion of the lung after its atelectasis following surgical repair.

Cor Triatriatum Sinistrum Combined with Changes in Atrial Septum and Right Atrium in a 60-Year-Old Woman.

Project description:Background and Objectives: A rare case of cor triatriatum sinistrum in combination with anomalies in the atrial septum and in the right atrium of a 60-year-old female body donor is described here. Materials and Methods: In addition to classical dissection, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, computer tomography and cinematic rendering were performed. In a reference series of 59 regularly formed hearts (33 men, 26 women), we looked for features in the left and right atrium or atrial septum. In addition, we measured the atrial and ventricular wall thickness in 15 regularly formed hearts (7 men, 8 women). Results: In the case described, the left atrium was partly divided into two chambers by an intra-atrial membrane penetrated by two small openings. The 2.5 cm-high membrane originated in the upper level of the oval fossa and left an opening of about 4 cm in diameter. Apparently, the membrane did not lead to a functionally significant flow obstruction due to the broad intra-atrial communication between the proximal and distal chamber of the left atrium. In concordance with this fact, left atrial wall thickness was not elevated in the cor triatriatum sinistrum when compared with 15 regularly formed hearts. In addition, two further anomalies were found: 1. the oval fossa was deepened and arched in the direction of the left atrium; 2. the right atrium showed a membrane-like structure at its posterior and lateral walls, which began at the lower edge of the oval fossa. It probably corresponds to a strongly developed eustachian valve (valve of the inferior vena cava). Conclusions: The case described suggests that malformations in the development of the atrial septum and in the regression of the valve of the right sinus vein are involved in the pathogenesis of cor triatriatum sinistrum.

Project description:An 82-year-old woman with a history of LD stage SCLC of her left upper lobe nine years earlier, had been treated with five cycles chemotherapy cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin and etoposide (CDE)) resulting in a complete response. She received prophylactic cranial irradiation. Now she presented with a palpable mass in the right supra-clavicular fossa. Her further medical history revealed coronary vascular disease, for which she underwent PTCA; mild aortic valve stenosis and a pacemaker to treat a third degree AV block. She has NYHA class II. She had a history of cigarette smoking but she stopped when SCLC was diagnosed nine years ago. She had no dyspnea

Nine-year survival of a 60-year-old woman with locally advanced pancreatic cancer under repeated open approach radiofrequency ablation: A case report.

Project description:BackgroundRadiofrequency ablation (RFA) is gaining popularity as an additional therapy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. RFA appears to be an attractive treatment option for patients with unresectable, locally advanced and nonmetastatic pancreatic cancer.Case summaryA 60-year-old woman with 2 mo intermittent upper abdominal pains was admitted to hospital. She had undergone radical gastrectomy (Billroth II) for gastric antral cancer. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) and abdominal ultrasound displayed a primary tumor in the neck of the pancreas. Pathological examination showed that the lesion was a pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. According to the results of the imaging, open approach RFA was selected to treat the primary tumor. Eight months later, CECT follow-up revealed local recurrence of the tumor, and another open RFA was performed. Although there is evidence that RFA for recurrence of other cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma may prolong patient survival, it remains unclear whether repeat RFA for local recurrence of pancreatic cancer is feasible. The patient continued to enjoy 9 years of life following the first RFA.ConclusionRFA of locally advanced, nonresectable, nonmetastatic, pancreatic tumor is characterized by feasibility-based treatment giving rise to tumor reduction based on improvement of quality of life.

Project description:Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery is rare and typically results in mitral regurgitation, ventricular arrhythmias, heart failure, and sudden death. The condition most often manifests itself in early childhood, but some individuals are diagnosed much later. We describe the case of a 75-year-old woman with heart failure in whom stepwise multimodal imaging revealed anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery.
