Complete genome sequence of Roseophage vB_DshP-R1, which infects Dinoroseobacter shibae DFL12.

ABSTRACT: The Roseophages, a group of marine viruses that uniquely infect the Roseobacter clade of bacteria, play a significant role in marine ecosystems. Here we present a complete genomic sequence of an N4 phage 'vB_DshP-R1', which infects Dinoroseobacter shibae DFL12, together with its structural and genomic features. vB_DshP-R1 has an?~?75 nm diameter icosahedral structure and a complete genome of 75,028 bp. This is the first genome sequence of a lytic phage of the genus Dinoroseobacter.

Project description:Investigating the bacteriophages of vibrios has led to significant insights into the evolution and pathogenicity of their host strains. This report presents the first complete genome sequence of a bacteriophage that infects the deadly human pathogen Vibrio vulnificus. The phage was isolated from the surface waters of the Ala Wai Canal, which is part of an urban watershed in eastern Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. The phage particle is icosahedral, with a diameter of 35-40 nm, and a small non-contractile tail. The genome was sequenced in its entirety, rendering a 38 kb sequence located on a single, linear, circularly permuted chromosome. Here, we present the annotation and genomic features of the bacteriophage, VvAW1.

Complete genome sequence of bacteriophage P8625, the first lytic phage that infects Verrucomicrobia.

Project description:Bacteriophage P8625 is a lytic bacteriophage that infects the verrucomicrobial strain IMCC8625, a marine bacterium affiliated with Verrucomicrobia subdivision 4. Both the bacteriophage and the host bacterial strain were isolated from surface seawater samples collected off the east coast of Korea. The phage particle has an icosahedral capsid with a diameter of ~47 nm and a long tail of ~75 nm in length, showing the distinctive morphology of the Siphoviridae family. The complete genome sequence of phage P8625 is 32,894 bp long with 51.0 % G?+?C content. This is the first report of the complete genome sequence of a lytic phage that infects the Verrucomicrobia, for which the name "verrucophage" is proposed.

Project description:BACKGROUND: Bacteriophage vB_YenP_AP5 is a lytic bacteriophage capable of infecting Yersinia enterocolitica strains of serotype O:3, an epidemiologically significant serotype within this bacterial species that causes yersiniosis in humans. This work describes the complete genome sequence of this phage. RESULTS: The genome consists of linear double-stranded DNA of 38,646 bp, with direct terminal repeats of 235 bp in length, and a GC content of 50.7%. There are 45 open reading frames which occupy 89.9% of the genome. Most of the proteins encoded by this virus exhibit sequence similarity to Yersinia phage ?YeO3-12 and Salmonella phage ?SG-JL2 proteins. CONCLUSIONS: Genomic and morphological analyses place the bacteriophage vB_YenP_AP5 in the T7likevirus genus of the subfamily Autographivirinae within the family Podoviridae.

A BLASTn search of the PRSV SK isolate full-genome sequence showed nucleotide sequence identity ranging from 81% to 83% with previously reported PRSV isolates (GenBank accession numbers KX655874 and EF017707).
