Crystal structure of (2S)-3-methyl-2-[(naphthalen-1-ylsulfon-yl)amino]-butanoic acid.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C15H17NO4S, was synthesized from l-valine and naphthalene-1-sulfonyl chloride. The hydrogen-bonded carb-oxy-lic acid groups form a catemer C(4) motif extending along [100]. The catemer structure is reinforced by a rather long N-H?O hydrogen bond, between the sulfamide N-H group and a carb-oxy-lic acid O atom [H?O = 2.52?(2)?Å], and a C-H?O hydrogen bond.

In the crystal, mol-ecules form inversion dimers via O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving the carb-oxy-lic acid groups. Hydrogen bonding between the sulfonamide N-H group and the carb-oxy-lic acid O atom assembles the dimers into thick layers parallel to (100). The naphthalene groups of adjacent layers are arranged in a herring-bone motif. There are C-H?? inter-actions between the naphthalene rings of neighbouring layers.

There are two intra-molecular hydrogen bonds (O-H?N and N-H?O) between the hy-droxy and amino groups, so that O- and N-bound H atoms involved in these hydrogen bonds are each disordered with equal occupancies of 0.50. Project description:A new polymorph of (2S,3S)-2-amino-3-methyl-penta-noic acid, l-isoleucine C6H13NO2, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21 with four independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The mol-ecules are zwitterions. In the crystal, N-H?O hydrogen bonds link two pairs of independent mol-ecules and their symmetry-related counterparts to form two types of layers stacked in an anti-parallel manner parallel to (001). The hydro-phobic aliphatic isopropyl groups protrude from these layers.

Project description:In the title mol-ecule, C48H33N, the central N atom shows no pyramidalization, so that the N atom and the three C atoms bound to the N atom lie almost in the same plane. The three para-phenyl-ene rings bonded to the N atom are in a propeller form. All of the naphthalene ring systems are slightly bent. In the crystal, mol-ecules form an inversion dimer, through two pairs of C-H⋯π inter-actions, which further inter-acts with the adjacent dimer via another two pairs of C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a column structure along the a axis. There are no significant inter-actions between these column structures.
