Crystal structure of a third polymorph of tris-(acetyl-acetonato-?(2) O,O')iron(III).

ABSTRACT: In the structure of the title complex, [Fe(C5H7O2)3] or Fe(acac)3, the asymmetric unit contains one mol-ecule in a general position. The coordination sphere of the Fe(III) atom is that of a slightly distorted octahedron. The crystal under investigation was a two-component pseudo-merohedral twin in the monoclinic system with a ? angle close to 90°. Twin law [100/0-10/00-1] reduced the R1 residual [I > 2?(I)] from 0.0769 to 0.0312, and the mass ratio of twin components refined to 0.8913?(5):0.1087?(5). In the crystal, mol-ecules are arranged in sheets normal to [001] via non-classical C-H?O hydrogen bonding. No other significant inter-molecular inter-actions are observed. The structure is a new polymorph of Fe(acac)3 and is isotypic with one polymorph of its gallium analog.

Project description:The mononuclear title complex, [Fe(CF3O3S)(C5H7O2)2(C4H8O)] or [Fe(acac)2(OTf)(THF)] (acac = acetyl-acetonate; OTf = tri-fluoro-methane-sulfon-ate; THF = tetrahydrofuran), (I), consists of one six-coordinate Fe(3+) atom in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment [Fe-O bond-length range = 1.9517 (11)-2.0781 (11) Å]. The triflate ligand was found to be disordered over two sets of sites, with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.622 (16):0.378 (16). Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O and C-H⋯F hydrogen-bonding inter-actions generate a two-dimensional supra-molecular structure lying parallel to (100). This is only the second crystal structure reported of a mononuclear bis-(acetyl-acetonato)iron(III) complex.

Crystal structure of strontium dicobalt iron(III) tris-(orthophosphate): SrCo2Fe(PO4)3.

Project description:The title compound, SrCo2Fe(PO4)3, has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction. It crystallizes with the α-CrPO4 type structure. In this structure, all atoms are on special positions of the Imma space group, except for two O atoms which are located on general positions. The three-dimensional network in the crystal structure is made up of two types of layers stacked normal to (100). The first layer is built from two edge-sharing CoO6 octa-hedra, leading to the formation of Co2O10 dimers that are connected to two PO4 tetra-hedra by a common edge and corners. The second layer results from apex-sharing FeO6 octa-hedra and PO4 tetra-hedra, which form linear chains alternating with a zigzag chain of Sr(II) cations. These layers are linked together by common vertices of PO4 tetra-hedra and FeO6 octa-hedra to form an open three-dimensional framework that delimits two types of channels parallel to [100] and [010] where the Sr(II) cations are located. Each Sr(II) cation is surrounded by eight O atoms.

Crystal structure of tetra-kis-(1,1,1,5,5,5-hexa-fluoro-acetyl-acetonato)hafnium(IV).

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [Hf(C5HF6O2)4], has been determined. The asymmetric unit contains two Hf(hfac)4 mol-ecules (hfac = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexa-fluoro-acetyl-acetonate); both are located on general positions and have identical structures apart from the disorder involving three CF3 groups in one of the two mol-ecules. The mol-ecules of Hf(hfac)4 are arranged in layers that are parallel to the ab plane, and the coordination geometry of each hafnium(IV) center is a distorted square anti-prism. An inter-esting aspect of the structure is that the hfac ligands are arranged so that the Hf(hfac)4 mol-ecules have idealized 2 point symmetry, in which two of the hfac groups bridge between the two squares. Although all other M(β-diketonate)4 compounds of Hf (and Zr) also have square-anti-prismatic geometries; in almost all of them the ligands are arranged so that the mol-ecules have 222 point symmetry (in which none of the hfac ligands bridges between the two squares). The factors that favor one structure over another are not clear.

Crystal structure of di-μ-hydroxido-κ(4) O:O-bis[bis(acetyl-acetonato-κ(2) O,O')cobalt(III)].

Project description:The dinuclear title complex, [Co2(C5H7O2)4(μ-OH)2] or [Co(acac)2(μ-OH)]2, where acac is acetyl-acetonate, is centrosymmetric with half of the mol-ecule per asymmetric unit. The mol-ecular structure is a dimer of octa-hedrally coordinated Co(III) atoms with four O atoms from two chelating acac ligands and two O atoms from bridging hydroxide ligands. The crystal packing features weak C-H⋯O inter-actions between neighboring mol-ecules, leading to the formation of chains normal to the ac plane. The hydroxide H atoms are not involved in hydrogen bonding because of the bulky acac ligands. This is the first crystal structure reported of a dimeric transition metal bis-acac complex with OH(-) as the bridging group.

Crystal structure of disilver(I) dizinc(II) iron(III) tris-(orthovanadate) with an alluaudite-type structure.

Project description:The title compound, Ag2Zn2Fe(VO4)3, has been synthesized by solid-state reactions and belongs to the alluaudite structure family. In the crystal structure, four sites are positioned at special positions. One silver site is located on an inversion centre (Wyckoff position 4b), and an additional silver site, as well as one zinc and one vanadium site, on twofold rotation axes (4e). One site on a general position is statistically occupied by FeIII and ZnII cations that are octa-hedrally surrounded by O atoms. The three-dimensional framework structure of the title vanadate results from [(Zn,Fe)2O10] units of edge-sharing [(Zn,Fe)O6] octa-hedra that alternate with [ZnO6] octa-hedra so as to form infinite chains parallel to [10]. These chains are linked through VO4 tetra-hedra by sharing vertices, giving rise to layers extending parallel to (010). Such layers are shared by common vanadate tetra-hedra. The resulting three-dimensional framework delimits two types of channels parallel to [001] in which the silver sites are located with four- and sixfold coordination by oxygen.

Project description:The title compound, [Fe2(C44H28N4O)2O], was obtained as a by-product during the synthesis of FeIII tetra-phenyl-porphyrin perchlorate. It crystallizes as a new polymorphic modification in addition to the ortho-rhom-bic form previously reported [Hoffman et al. (1972 ▸). J. Am. Chem. Soc. 94, 3620-3626; Swepston & Ibers (1985 ▸) Acta Cryst. C41, 671-673; Kooijmann et al. (2007 ▸). Private Communication (refcode 667666). CCDC, Cambridge, England]. In its crystal structure, the two crystallographically independent FeIII cations are coordinated in a square-planar environment by the four N atoms of a tetra-phenyl-porphyrin ligand. The FeIII-tetra-phenyl-porphyrine units are linked by a μ2-oxido ligand into a dimer with an Fe-O-Fe angle close to linearity. The final coordination sphere for each FeIII atom is square-pyramidal with the μ2-oxido ligand in the apical position. The crystal under investigation consisted of two domains in a ratio of 0.691 (3): 0.309 (3).

Crystal structure of disodium dicobalt(II) iron(III) tris-(orthophosphate) with an alluaudite-like structure.

Project description:The title compound, Na2Co2Fe(PO4)3, was synthesized by a solid-state reaction. This new stoichiometric phase crystallizes in an alluaudite-like structure. In this structure, all atoms are in general positions except for four atoms which are located at the special positions of the C2/c space group. One Co atom, one P and one Na atom are all located on Wyckoff position 4e (2), while the second Na atom is located on an inversion centre 4a (-1). The other Co and Fe atoms occupy a general position with a statistical distribution. The open framework results from [(Co,Fe)2O10] units of edge-sharing [(Co,Fe)O6] octa-hedra, which alternate with [CoO6] octa-hedra that form infinite chains running along the [10-1] direction. These chains are linked together through PO4 tetra-hedra by the sharing of vertices so as to build layers perpendicular to [010]. The three-dimensional framework is accomplished by the stacking of these layers, leading to the formation of two types of tunnels parallel to [010] in which the Na(+) cations are located, each cation being surrounded by eight O atoms.

Synthesis and crystal structure of calcium dizinc iron(III) tris-(orthophosphate), CaZn2Fe(PO4)3.

Project description:Single crystals of the title compound, CaZn2Fe(PO4)3, were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction. In the asymmetric unit, all atoms are located in fully occupied general positions of the P21/c space group. The zinc atoms are located on two crystallographically independent sites with tetra-hedral and distorted triangular-based bipyramidal geometries. Two edge-sharing triangular bipyramidal ZnO5 units form a dimer, which is linked to slightly deformed FeO6 octa-hedra via a common edge. The resulting chains are inter-connected through PO4 tetra-hedra to form a layer perpendicular to the b axis. Moreover, the remaining PO4 and ZnO4 tetra-hedra are linked together through common vertices to form tapes parallel to the c axis and surrounding a chain of Ca2+ cations to build a sheet, also perpendicular to the b axis. The stacking of the two layers along the b axis leads to the resulting three-dimensional framework, which defines channels in which the Ca2+ cations are located, each cation being coordinated by seven oxygen atoms.
