Stop relaxing: How DNA damage-induced chromatin compaction may affect epigenetic integrity and disease.

ABSTRACT: DNA damage is widely recognized for its potential to impair epigenetic integrity. Epigenetic defects are closely associated with a variety of diseases. We have recently uncovered DNA double-strand break-induced chromatin condensation as a critical modulator of repair outcome. Here, we discuss the possible implications for cell functions beyond repair.
