Crystal structure of hexa-kis-(dimethyl sulfoxide-?O)manganese(II) diiodide.

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title salt, [Mn(C2H6OS)6]I2, consists of one Mn(II) ion, six O-bound dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ligands and two I(-) counter-anions. The isolated complex cations have an octa-hedral configuration and are grouped in hexa-gonally arranged rows extending parallel to [100]. The two I(-) anions are located between the rows and are linked to the cations through two weak C-H?I inter-actions.

Project description:The title salt, [Mn(C2H6OS)6]I4, is made up from discrete [Mn(DMSO)6]2+ (DMSO is dimethyl sulfoxide) units connected through non-classical hydrogen bonds to linear I42- tetra-iodide anions. The MnII ion in the cation, situated on a position with site symmetry -3., is octa-hedrally coordinated by O atoms of the DMSO mol-ecule with an Mn-O distance of 2.1808?(12)?Å. The I42- anion contains a neutral I2 mol-ecule weakly coordinated by two iodide ions, forming a linear centrosymmetric tetra-iodide anion. The title compound is isotypic with the Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn analogues.

Project description:There are few reports that describe crystal structures of compounds containing cobalt complexed to either dimethyl sulfoxide (Me2SO) or quinoline (C9H7N). The title compound, [Co(C2H6OS)6][CoCl3(C9H7N)]2, is a cobalt salt in which the metal ion is complexed to both Me2SO and quinoline. In particular, we observed that anhydrous cobalt(II) chloride reacts with quinoline in Me2SO to form a salt that is to be formulated as [CoII(Me2SO)6]2+{[CoIICl3quinoline]2-}. The CoII atom in the cation portion of this mol-ecule lies on a inversion center and is bound to the O atoms of six Me2SO moieties in an octa-hedral configuration, while the CoII atom in the anion is attached to three chloride ligands and one quinoline moiety in a tetra-hedral arrangement.

Project description:The title compound, [Zn{(CH3)2SO}6]I4, is a one-dimensional supra-molecular polymer along a threefold rotation axis of the space group. It is built up from discrete [Zn{(CH3)2SO}6](2+) units connected through non-classical hydrogen bonds to linear I4 (2-) polyiodide anions (C-H?I = 3.168?Å). The Zn(II) ion in the cation has an octa-hedral coordination geometry, with all six Zn-O bond lengths being equivalent, at 2.111?(4)?Å. The linear polyiodide anion contains a neutral I2 mol-ecule weakly coordinated to two iodide ions.

Project description:The title compound, [Mn(C(3)H(7)NO)(6)][Fe(2)Cl(6)O], was obtained unintentionally as a product of an attempted synthesis of heterometallic complexes with Schiff base ligands using manganese powder and FeCl(3)·6H(2)O as starting materials. In the [Fe(2)OCl(6)](2-) anion, the O atom and the Fe atom occupy positions with site symmetry [Formula: see text] and 3, respectively, resulting in a linear Fe-O-Fe angle and a staggered conformation. The octa-hedrally surrounded cation (site symmetry [Formula: see text]) and the [Fe(2)Cl(6)O](2-) anion are alternately stacked along [001].

Project description:The title compound, [Mn(C(3)H(7)NO)(6)][Cr(NCS)(5)(C(3)H(7)NO)], was obtained unintentionally as a product of an attempted synthesis of heterometallic complexes based on Reineckes anion using manganese powder, Reineckes salt and 1-(2-hy-droxy-eth-yl)tetra-zole as starting materials. The crystal structure of the complex consists of an [Mn(dmf)(6)](2+) cation and a [Cr(NCS)(5)(dmf)](2-) anion (dmf = dimethyl-formamide). The Mn(II) and Cr(III) atoms show a slightly distorted octa-hedral MnO(6) and CrN(5)O coordination geometries with adjacent angles in the range 85.29?(13)-95.96?(14)°.

Project description:In the complex cation of the title salt, [CrCl(C2H6OS)5]Cl2, the Cr(III) ion is coordinated by one chloride ligand and five O atoms from dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ligands, leading to a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination environment [O-Cr-O angles range from 86.69?(16) to 92.87?(16)°]. In the crystal, complex cations are arranged in hexa-gonally packed rows parallel to [010], with the chloride counter-anions situated in between. The inter-actions between cations and anions are mainly ionic in nature.

Project description:The reaction of NiCl(2)·6H(2)O with sodium 2,2-dicyano-ethene-1,1-dithiol-ate [Na(2)(i-mnt)] in dimethyl sulfoxide produces the title complex, [Ni(C(2)H(6)OS)(6)][Ni(C(4)N(2)S(2))(2)]. There is half each of an [Ni(C(2)H(6)OS)(6)](2-) complex anion and an [Ni{(CH(3))(2)SO}(6)](2+) complex cation in the asymmetric unit. The i-mnt ligand coordinates in a bidentate manner to the Ni atom in the anion through the two chelating S atoms in an approximate square-planar geometry. The Ni atom in the complex cation has an octahedral coordination environment with six dimethyl sulfoxide mol-ecules as ligands.

Project description:In the title compound, {[Mn(6)(C(8)H(4)O(4))(6)(C(4)H(9)NO)(8)]·H(2)O}(n), two of the Mn atoms are six-coordinated by six O atoms from three benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate (bdc) ligands and two trans DMA (dimethyl-acetamide) mol-ecules, whereas two other Mn atoms, located on inversion centers, are both in octa-hedral coordinations by six bdc O atoms. The discrete trinuclear manganese secondary building units (SBU) of Mn(3)(O(2)CR)(6) ({-Mn-Mn-Mn-}) are linked through bdc ligands, forming a chain, while the discrete trinuclear SBU of {-Mn-Mn-Mn-} are bridged, forming another chain]. The two types of chains are linked through bdc ligands, resulting in the formation of a layer with 3(6) topology. Weak O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions involving the disordered water molecule (half-occupation) extend the two-dimensional layers into a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework.

Project description:The title complex, [Ce(C(2)H(6)OS)(8)](2)[Mo(6)O(19)](3)·4C(2)H(6)OS, was obtained as a byproduct of the reaction of [(C(4)H(9))(4)N](2)[Mo(6)O(19)] with Ce(NO(3))(3)·6H(2)O and phthalic acid in dimethyl-sulfoxide solution. The asymmetric unit consists of a complex [Ce(C(2)H(6)OS)(8)](3+) cation, one and a half of the Lindqvist-type [Mo(6)O(19)](2-) polyanions and two dimethyl-sulfoxide solvent mol-ecules; the half polyanion lies on an inversion center. The Ce(3+) ion is coordinated by eight dimethyl-sulfoxide ligands through the O atoms in the form of a distorted square antiprism. The Ce-O bond lengths range from 2.429?(6) to 2.550?(5)?Å. The cohesion of the structure is ensured by S?O [3.115?(6), 3.242?(10) and 3.12?(3)?Å], O?O [3.037?(10)?Å] and C-H?O inter-actions between cations and anions. The S and C atoms of a dmso ligand are disordered over three sites in a 0.45:0.30:0.25 ratio. The dimethyl-sulfoxide solvent mol-ecules are highly disordered and could not be modelled successfully; their contribution was therefore removed from the refinement using the SQUEEZE routine in PLATON [Spek (2009 ?). Acta Cryst. D65, 148-155]. Potential solvent-accessible voids of 500.0?Å(3) occur in the crystal structure.
