The gene <i>ARHGAP11B</i> promotes basal progenitor amplification and is implicated in neocortex expansion. It arose on the human evolutionary lineage by partial duplication of <i>ARHGAP11A</i>, which encodes a Rho guanosine triphosphatase-activating protein (RhoGAP).
