Three new species of the Chinese planthopper genus Tetricodes Fennah (Hemiptera, Fulgoroidea, Issidae, Parahiraciini).

ABSTRACT: The diagnostic characters of the Chinese planthopper genus Tetricodes Fennah, 1956 are redefined. Three new species of this genus, T. ansatus Chang & Chen, sp. n. (China: Guangxi), T. parvispinus Chang & Chen, sp. n. (China: Guizhou) and T. similis Chang & Chen, sp. n. (China: Guizhou) are described and illustrated. The female genitalia of the genus is described and illustrated for the first time. A checklist and key to the species of Tetricodes are given. The synonymy of Tetricodes songae Zhang & Chen, 2009 with Tetricodes polyphemus Fennah, 1956, syn. n., is proposed.

Parahiraciini (Hemiptera, Fulgoromorpha, Issidae): one new genus, two new species and three new subtribes.

Project description:A new genus Pusulissus gen. nov. with two new species P. phiaoacensis sp. nov. and P. coronomensis sp. nov. are described respectively from Vietnam and China in the tribe Parahiraciini of the family Issidae. A molecular phylogeny using combined genes (18S, 28S, COX1 and Cytb) confirms its placement in the tribe Parahiraciini. The tribe is divided into three subtribes: Scantiniinasubtribe nov. with the type genus Scantinius Stål, 1866, and Vindilisinasubtribe nov. with type genus Vindilis Stål, 1870 plus Nisoprincessa Gnezdilov, 2017, and the nominal subtribe Parahiraciina Cheng & Yang, 1991 subtribe nov. The characteristics of these subtribes are provided, with a key to identification. Genus Folifemurum Che, Zhang & Wang, 2013 is transferred to HemisphaeriiniMongolianina, and genus Gelastyrella Yang, 1994 is maintained as a valid name.

Project description:The planthopper genus Neohemisphaerius Chen, Zhang & Chang, 2014 (Hemiptera: Fulgoroidea: Issidae) is reviewed to include 3 species: Neohemisphaerius wugangensis Chen, Zhang & Chang, 2014 (China: Hunan), Neohemisphaerius yangi Chen, Zhang & Chang, 2014 (China: Guangdong) and Neohemisphaerius guangxiensis sp. n. (China: Guangxi). A revised generic diagnosis is given. The new species is described and all species illustrated. A key to these three species is also given. The species Neohemisphaerius signifer (Walker) is transferred back to Hemisphaerius as Hemisphaerius signifer Walker, comb. revived.

The planthopper genus Spartidelphax, a new segregate of Nearctic Delphacodes (Hemiptera, Delphacidae).

Project description:The new genus Spartidelphax is described to house three species removed from the polyphyletic genus Delphacodes. The members of Spartidelphax are coastal species native to eastern North America, and probably feed exclusively on cordgrass (Poaceae, Spartina Schreb.). The taxonomy and nomenclature of the included species (viz. Spartidelphaxdetectus, Spartidelphaxluteivittus, and Spartidelphaxpenedetectus) are reviewed. Spartidelphaxluteivittus is a nomen dubium, whose type material is inadequate to provide diagnostic features contrasting with Spartidelphaxdetectus and Spartidelphaxpenedetectus. Diagnoses and a key are provided for the remaining Spartidelphax.

Project description:Three new sharpshooter species of the genus Fonsecaiulus Young, 1977 are described and illustrated from specimens collected in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, Fonsecaiulus rectangularis and Fonsecaiulus guttiformis, and in the Brazilian Cerrado, Fonsecaiulus filiformis. The descriptions are based on features from the external morphology, color pattern, and male and female genital structures. Comparisons of the three new taxa with the remaining six Fonsecaiulus species are provided. An identification key to males of all known species of the genus is given.

The tropiduchid planthopper genus Connelicita Wang & Bourgoin, 2015: two new species from Central Vietnam and new records (Hemiptera, Fulgoromorpha, Tropiduchidae).

Project description:Two new planthopper species of the tropiduchid genus Connelicita Wang & Bourgoin, 2015, C.bachmaensis Constant & Pham, sp. nov., and C.phongdienensis Constant & Pham, sp. nov. are described from Bach Ma National Park and from the Centre for Conservation of Vietnam Natural Resources and Rescue of Animals and plants, Phong Dien District in Thua Thien-Hue Province, respectively. These new records greatly extend the distribution of the genus, which was known from southern China (Guangxi) and North Vietnam, to the south, reaching the mid area of Central Vietnam. New records are provided for C.haiphongensis Wang & Zhang, 2015, extending the distribution of the species from Cat Ba Island to a large zone in North Vietnam. Illustrations of habitus, details, and male genitalia are given as well as a distribution map and photographs of the habitat. An identification key to the species of Vietnam is provided. The genus Connelicita now comprises five species.
