Mutations in the polycystin genes, <i>PKD1</i> or <i>PKD2,</i> results in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD). Although a genetic basis of ADPKD is established, we lack a clear understanding of polycystin proteins' functions as ion channels.
