Right Atrial Paraganglioma: An Extremely Rare Primary Cardiac Neoplasm Mimicking Myxoma.

Project description:In this report, we present a case of 35-year-old lady who had presented with atypical chest pain and exertional breathlessness for past six months. Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms showed a well-circumscribed, echo-dense mass in the right atrium, attached to the interatrial septum at the level of atrioventricular junction and in the vicinity of coronary sinus ostium. She underwent successful resection of the cardiac mass. Histopathology revealed paraganglioma, which was reconfirmed by immunohistochemistry study. This represents an extremely rare presentation as primary cardiac tumors are 20-times less common than metastatic tumors and paraganglioma is one of the rarest primary cardiac tumors, accounting for < 1% of all cases.

Right Atrial Myxoma with Coexistent Coronary Artery Disease - A Rare Combination.

Project description:Atrial myxomas are the most common primary heart tumors. Two-dimensional echocardiography is the diagnostic procedure of choice. The majority of myxomas are located in the left atrium. Myxoma in the right atrium is an uncommon location. The co-occurrence of right atrial myxoma with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD) is uncommon. In our case, right atrial myxoma was associated with CAD, which makes it a unique case because very few cases of right atrial myxoma coexistent with CAD are described in literature.

Right atrial myxoma mimicking tricuspid stenosis.

Project description:A 62-year-old man presented to the cardiology clinic with symptoms of fatigue, shortness of breath and swelling in the abdomen and legs. A pedunculated mobile mass with a short stalk in the right atrium was found to originate from the inferior vena caval opening and prolapse into the right ventricle through a tricuspid valve during diastole in echocardiography. The patient was referred to our department and surgery was planned for right atrial myxomas diagnosis. The mass with surrounding tissue was surgically removed using the cardiopulmonary bypass method. No postoperative complications were seen in the currently asymptomatic patient who is still under our follow-up schedule.

"Double Ball Valve Mechanism Obstructing Both Right Ventricular Inflow and Outflow": Atypical Presentation of Right Atrial Myxoma Presenting as Right Ventricular Mass.

Project description:Large intracavitary masses such as those occupying most of a cardiac chamber and obstructing blood flow are not routinely encountered in clinical practice. The differential diagnosis includes neoplastic as well as nonneoplastic causes. Primary cardiac tumors by themselves are uncommon. We hereby report a rare case of a middle-aged female presenting with New York Heart Association Class III symptoms, whose transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a huge mass in right-sided chambers with a novel double ball valve type movement. She successfully underwent urgent surgical resection of the mass with histopathological confirmation of diagnosis.

Right atrial myxoma: Unusual location; uncommon association.

Project description:We are presenting a case of the right atrial myxoma found in a case of rheumatic heart disease. During transthoracic echocardiography for the evaluation of a suspected rheumatic valvular heart disease, a diagnosis of severe mitral stenosis with severe mitral regurgitation with the right atrial thrombus was made. On transesophageal echocardiography, a pedunculated mass in the right atrium was confirmed. In the course of surgery, it was found that there is a tumor originating from the right atrial appendage (RAA) which was confused with clot on echocardiography. Rheumatic heart disease and myxomas have different etiopathogenesis, and this coexistence has not been reported. Further, right atrial myxoma arising out of RAA is also being reported for the first time.

Surgical management of a giant right atrial myxoma.

Project description:Cardiac tumours represent around 0.2% of tumours overall, and primary cardiac tumours are even more uncommon. We report the case of a 72-year-old female with a 7 cm × 4 cm right atrial mass which was prolapsing through the tricuspid valve. The mass was resected and histological analysis confirmed a myxoma. This report describes a rare finding of a giant right atrial mxyoma and subsequent surgical management.

Rare presentation of an atrial myxoma in an adolescent patient: a case report and literature review.

Project description:BACKGROUND:Cardiac tumors are uncommon in the pediatric population. When present, cardiac manifestations stem from the tumor causing inflow or outflow obstruction. While common in adults, cardiac myxomas presenting with generalized systemic illness or peripheral emboli especially with no cardiac or neurological symptoms are rare in children. CASE PRESENTATION:We report a case of a previously healthy adolescent girl who presented with a 6-month history of constitutional symptoms and a purpuric rash with no cardiac or neurologic symptoms, found to have a cardiac myxoma. CONCLUSIONS:A vasculopathic rash in the setting of atrial myxomas has been shown be a precursor to significant morbidity and mortality. Due to the rarity of this entity, the time elapsed from onset of non-cardiac symptoms until diagnosis of a myxoma is usually prolonged with interval development of irreversible neurological sequelae and death reported in the literature. Therefore, we highlight the importance of including cardiac myxomas and paraneoplastic vasculitis early in the differential diagnosis for patients presenting with a purpuric rash and systemic symptoms.

Cricket ball in the right heart: A case report of right atrial myxoma.

Project description:Introduction:Myxomas are the most common type of cardiac benign tumors and most of them are located in the left atrium, followed by the right atrium. The majority of Myxomas is located in the left atrium and has a variable clinical presentation. Myxomas affect patients within a wide age range (15-80 years), and the average age is approximately 50 years. There is a female predominance in the sporadic form. Myxomas are usually pedunculated, solitary, and sporadic but may be associated with familial autosomal dominant syndromes. Case presentation:We report a 38-year-old female presented with large myxoma in the right atrium and atypical presentation and successfully underwent surgical excision of right atrial myxoma. The patient was asymptomatic on 6 months follow up. Conclusion:Cardiac myxomas are the most frequent finding among primary cardiac tumors. Clinical manifestations depend on the involvement in valvular obstruction, distant arterial embolisms, or nonspecific, constitutional symptoms. Transoesophageal Echocardiography is the cornerstone for diagnosis of atrial myxoma. Cardiac myxomas should be managed with surgical resection.

Hydatid cyst of the pericardium mimicking a right atrial myxoma.

Project description:The hydatid cyst of the pericardium is a rare pathology; its clinical presentation is variable. It can reveal straightaway at the stage of life-threatening complications. Only a few cases of isolated pericardial hydatid cysts have been reported. Echocardiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging are important diagnostic tools for the diagnosis of echinococcosis, and surgery remains the treatment of choice. Herein, we report a rare case of pericardial hydatid cyst who presented to our emergency department with complaints of palpitations, chest pain, and shortness of breath.
