Phosphorylation modulates many cellular processes during cell cycle progression. The yeast centrosome (called the spindle pole body, SPB) is regulated by the protein kinases Mps1 and Cdc28/Cdk1 as it nucleates microtubules to separate chromosomes during mitosis.
