Implementation of the Nurse Navigation Program

ABSTRACT: This study was conducted as a randomized controlled intervention study with repetitive measurements in a pretest-posttest order to examine the effect of nurse navigation program on compliance, quality of life and prevention of complications in patients with intestinal stoma. The study was completed with 30 experimental and 28 control group patients with intestinal stoma in six hospitals, two of which are training and research hospitals, located in Gaziantep city center, between January 1 and December 31, 2021. While counseling, remote support, written and visual trainings, informative messages, phone calls, and appointment scheduling were applied to the patients in the experimental group within the scope of the nurse navigation program, the patients in the control group received standard care

The Effects of Nurse Navigation Program on Symptom Management and Psychosocial Adjustment in Colorectal Cancer Patients

Project description:This study was conducted to examine the effect of the nurse navigation program (NNP) applied to patients with colorectal cancer on symptom management and psychosocial adjustment to the disease. The design type was determined as a randomized controlled experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group, with repeated measurements. For this purpose, individuals were divided into two groups as experimental (n=31) and control (n=31) groups. The study was carried out in Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital Oncology Clinic between July 2021 and February 2022, after the necessary permissions were obtained. While individualized colorectal cancer education, psycho-oncological counseling and telephone support services were provided to the individuals in the experimental group under the guidance of nurse within the scope of NNP, no intervention was applied to the control group. In the study, data were collected with three different data collection tools: "Information Form", "Nightingale Symptom Assessment Scale (N-SAS)", "Psychosocial Adjustment To Illness Scale (PAIS/PAIS-SR)". Data were collected before NNP (once in the first week after chemotherapy), during NNP (once in the second week after chemotherapy, once in the first week after the next chemotherapy), after NNP (once in the second week after the next chemotherapy). The duration of the interventions performed via the WhatsApp application varied between 45-60 minutes between individuals. The research was completed with a total of 60 individuals, 30 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 22.0 program.

A cell type specific error correction signal in posterior parietal cortex

Project description:Neurons in posterior parietal cortex contribute to the execution of goal-directed navigation and other decision-making tasks. Although molecular studies have catalogued over fifty cortical cell types, it remains unknown what distinct functions they serve during goal-directed navigation. Here, we identified a molecularly defined subset of somatostatin (Sst) inhibitory neurons that, in mouse posterior parietal cortex, carry a novel cell type-specific error correction signal for navigation. We obtained repeatable experimental access to these cells using an adeno-associated virus (AAV) in which gene expression is driven by an enhancer that functions specifically in a subset of Sst cells. We found that during goal-directed navigation in a virtual environment, this subset of Sst neurons activates in a synchronous pattern that is distinct from the activity of surrounding neurons, including other Sst neurons. Using in vivo two-photon photostimulation and ex vivo paired patch clamp recordings, we show that nearby cells of this Sst subtype excite each other through gap junctions, revealing a self-excitation circuit motif that contributes to the synchronous activity of this cell type. Remarkably, these cells selectively activate as mice execute course corrections for deviations in their virtual heading during navigation toward a reward location, both for self- and experimentally-induced deviations. We propose that this subtype of Sst neurons provides a self-reinforcing and cell type-specific error-correction signal in posterior parietal cortex that may aid the execution and learning of accurate goal-directed navigation trajectories.

ILC2s navigate tissue redistribution during infection using stage-specific S1P receptors

Project description:Lymphocytes can circulate as well as take residence within tissues. The mechanisms by which circulating populations are recruited to infected tissue sites have been characterized, but the extent and molecular basis of tissue-resident cell recirculation is enigmatic. Here, we show that helminth infection- or IL-25-induced redistribution of intestinal tissue-localized group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) requires access to the lymphatic vessel network even though secondary lymphoid structures, which are essential signal hubs for adaptive lymphocyte differentiation and dispatch, are dispensable for tissue ILC2 mobilization. IL-25 signals induce a dramatic change in epigenetic landscape of intestinal ILC2s, enabling the expression of sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptors. S1PR5 is critical for ILC2 exit from intestinal tissue to lymph, whereas S1PR1 plays a dominant role in ILC2 egress from mesenteric lymph nodes to blood circulation and then to lung, where redistributed ILC2s contribute to tissue repair. The requirement of two S1PRs is largely due to the dynamic expression of the tissue-retention marker CD69, which mediates S1PR1 internalization. This stage-specific requirement of different S1P receptors for ILC2 redistribution during infection illustrates that innate and adaptive lymphocytes share a circulatory network frame but employ specialized navigation cues for their distinct migratory requirements.
