Yttrium Microspheres With Cetuximab Plus Irinotecan for Patients With Advanced Colorectal Cancer Mets to Liver

ABSTRACT: The goal of this clinical research study is to find out what effects radioactive particles, SIR-spheres, have when injected into the liver, followed by systemic chemotherapy with a combination of cetuximab and irinotecan compared to those who have systemic therapy alone, in patients with colon cancer that has metastasized to the liver. The safety of this treatment and how well it controls the disease will also be studied.

The information generated will help doctors better understand treatment patterns involving Y90 therapy, gain additional insights in the long-term outcomes for patients, as well as guide future research for using Y90 therapy, especially for those conditions where data is currently very limited or lacking.

Treatment with the biologic agent bevacizumab, if part of the standard of care at participating institutions, is allowed within this study at the discretion of the treating Investigator.

Project description:The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of radioactive microsphere infusion as a treatment for liver metastases from colon or rectal cancer. The investigators hypothesis is that the administration of microspheres between first and second line chemotherapy will increase progression-free survival time by about 2.5 months and may also improve tumor response rates to subsequent second line chemotherapy.
