Project description:RATIONALE: Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain agents to try to prevent the development of cancer. The use of folic acid may be effective in preventing colorectal cancer. Eating a diet rich in folic acid may prevent the development of colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase I trial is studying how well a folate-depleted diet works compared to a folate-supplemented diet in preventing colorectal cancer in patients who are at high risk for developing colorectal cancer.

Octreotide Acetate and Recombinant Interferon Alfa-2b or Bevacizumab in Treating Patients With Metastatic or Locally Advanced, High-Risk Neuroendocrine Tumor

Project description:This randomized phase III trial studies octreotide acetate and recombinant interferon alfa-2b to see how well it works compared to octreotide acetate and bevacizumab in treating patients with high-risk neuroendocrine tumors that have spread to other places in the body (metastatic) or spread from where it started to nearby tissue or lymph nodes (locally advanced). Octreotide acetate and recombinant interferon alfa-2b may interfere with the growth of tumor cells and slow the growth of cancer. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. It is not yet known whether giving octreotide acetate together with recombinant interferon alfa-2b is more effective than giving octreotide acetate together with bevacizumab in treating patients with neuroendocrine tumor.

Project description:Mouse skin carcinogenesis experiments suggest upon carcinogen treatment and promotion on mouse skin there arise at least two populations of tumors. One population has a higher incidence of progression from benign papilloma to a squamous cell carcinoma. Further studies have shown that a certain carcinogenesis protocol can select for these high risk tumors. Project description:The purpose of this study is to compare transcriptome profiles of one fast wilting and two slow wilting genotypes under low- and high- vapor pressure deficit Experiments: Five differential expression analyses were performed. 1. Differences within the Hutchesen line for slow and fast wilting; 2. Differences within the PI471938 line for slow and fast wilting; 3. Differences within the PI416937 line for slow and fast wilting; Differences between Hutchesen, PI471938 and PI416937 (regardless of pheotype); 5. Comparison between all lines and all pheotypes Methods: RNASeq data was generated using the Illumina HiSeq.
