Project description:Interventions: The intervention is a screening program for CRC that includes the availability of a blood test for CRC.
The intervention group are initially mailed an offer of screening for bowel cancer by FOBT.
At 12 weeks from date of the FOBT-screening offer, subjects who have not participated in FOBT-screening are mailed a second invitation to screen for CRC using a blood test for CRC.
Intervention group subjects contact the study Help-Line to request a referral to a pathology service for a blood to be taken for the blood test.
Primary outcome(s): Completion of a screening test for bowel cancer within a bowel cancer screening program.[12 weeks from written offer of a second screening test.]

Project description:Interventions: Name of intervention: gender specific mail-administered screening invitation strategies.
All participants will receive an offer to participate in a free FOBT which will be delivered by mail. Intervention arms will differ from control according to the information included in the materials accompanying the screening offer. All study participants will receive a standard screening reminder irrespective of their intervention group. Intervention materials will target specific psychosocial variables previously identified as being related to male participation in FOBT screening.
The intervention period is 14 weeks. All participants will receive a screening offer according to the following timeline.
Baseline: Advance notification letter sent
Week two: Invitation package sent
Week eight: Reminder letters sent to those who have not completed an FOBT
Week 14: Data collection ceases.
Arm 1: Control
The control arm will receive a standard offer to participate in FOBT screening designed to mimic the strategy utilised by the Australian national bowel cancer screening program (NBCSP).
The standard offer includes an advance notification letter and a screening invitation package.
The advance notification letter is sent two weeks prior to the screening invitation package and is designed to alert participants that an invitation to screen for CRC with an FOBT will soon follow. The standard advance notification letter introduces basic information about colorectal cancer and the health benefits of screening.

Project description:The main study aim is to develop, implement and disseminate a pilot population-based mailed FIT outreach screening program in the Philadelphia VA Medical Center that does not rely on having an office visit, by conducting a proof-of-concept 3-arm parallel-design pragmatic randomized trial to (1) Compare the effects of usual care (UC), screening invitation + reminder (invitation-reminder), or screening invitation + mailed FIT kit + reminder (mailed-FIT); (2) Explore whether the FIT completion rate varies by age or race/ethnicity; and (3) Explore barriers to use of mailed outreach screening for Veterans.

Project description:The investigators propose to build on the success of the Systems of Support to Increase Colorectal Cancer trial (SOS, R01CA121125, Green) and focus on disparity groups who are less likely to be current for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. We will test whether financial incentives increases screening uptake and decreases screening disparities. The investigators hypothesize that CRC screening rates will be higher in patients offered mailed fecal kits and financial incentives than those offered mailed fecal kits alone.

Project description:Background and study aims
An advance notification letter conveying information on colorectal cancer (CRC) risk and the intervention offered in the screening programme, may increase the likelihood of a positive response to the subsequent screening invitation, as the subject will have progressed in his degree of readiness for change. In addition, it has been shown that, in particular for less educated subjects, general practitioners (GP) advice may have a strong influence on the decision to be screened. The study aims to assess the impact on the response rate to the invitation for CRC screening, in the context of population based programs, of an advance notification letter mailed to subjects eligible for invitation. The additional cost per person examined and the additional workload for the subjects GPs will be assessed.
Who can participate?
All subjects (male and female) aged 50 to 69 targeted for CRC screening in 8 population based programmes in Italy.
What does the study involve?
During the enrolment period all subjects targeted for invitation in these screening programs were randomly allocated to three groups:
A: standard personal invitation letter, signed by the GP, to undergo CRC screening
B: advance notification letter, mailed one month before the standard invitation letter (same as in A), conveying information on CRC risk, on the screening program and on the expected benefits and potential harms of screening
C: as in B, with the addition, in the advance notification letter, of the offer of a personal encounter with the subjects GP, to discuss pros and cons of screening. The response rate across the different groups will be assessed at 6 months following the invitation letter.

Project description:Cancer is the most common disease around the world and colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer. The early diagnosis of colorectal cancer is difficult and relies on invasive diag-nostic tools such as colonoscopy and tissue biopsy. Other non-invasive techniques such as fecal occult blood screening test (FOBT) are less sensitive and accurate. The advantage of FOBT together with high throughput technology such as metabolomics could provide the advantages of non-invasive tool and the effectiveness of detecting novel colorectal cancer markers. In this way, this work focuses on the novelty of using FOBT as samples to perform metabolomics analysis and its application on colorectal cancer population.

Project description:As a part of UCLA Health’s continued goal of improving patient care the investigators are updating our mailing campaign for our FIT Kit colorectal cancer screening that the investigators administer 2 times per year to include an automated phone call reminder to patients who are overdue for average-risk colorectal cancer screening and enrolled in a mailed FIT program. This will help the investigators evaluate if automated phone calls are effective at improving compliance with CRC screening, in addition to mailed FIT and embedded electronic health record (EHR) portal messages to patients.

Project description:The treatments that aim to cure cancer in children can lead to "late effects" such as second cancers and heart disease. Screening tests can help find late effects, but most adult survivors of childhood cancer do not complete these tests. These survivors are at risk for harm that can be prevented.
We have developed a program called ONLOOP to remind survivors in Ontario, Canada to get the screening tests they need. ONLOOP reminds survivors who are at higher risk for heart disease, breast cancer, and/or colorectal cancer to complete their echocardiograms, mammograms and breast MRIs, and/or colonoscopies.
The goal of this clinical trial is to find out how well ONLOOP helps adult survivors of childhood cancer complete their screening tests. We also want to see if it could be turned into a long-term program in Ontario. Eligible survivors will be randomly assigned to either receive intervention materials or continue with usual care for 13 months before receiving intervention materials.
The intervention includes usual care plus these ONLOOP materials:
1. Study invitation letter and invitation reminder
2. Those who sign up for ONLOOP will receive personalized health information and a screening reminder. Survivors will receive information about:
1. their cancer treatment
2. their risk(s) for late effects
3. the screening tests they should do

Project description:Background and study aims:
Colorectal (bowel) cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the UK, and costs the National Health Service (NHS) more than £300 million a year in treatment costs. Patient survival could be increased and, costs very much reduced, if patients with bowel cancer received their diagnosis earlier, allowing treatment to begin earlier. The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (NHSBCSP) was introduced in England in 2006, and aims to screen men and women aged between 60 to 74 years of age for bowel cancer every two years using the faecal occult blood test (FOBt). Initial studies have shown that bowel screening is effective, but the number of patients who participate in screening have been quite low, with only around half of all the people who are invited to participate returning their FOBt kit.
The success of the NHSBCSP relies on a high number of patients participating, and the development of new ways to improve the number participating after they are invited to participate.
The main aim of the study is to assess how effective a GP reminder and additional FOBt kit are on increasing the number who participate in bowel cancer screening, when they have not participated following a previous invitation.
Who can participate?
All adults eligible for bowel screening (aged between 60 to 74 years old). These were patients at a participating general practice in the West Midlands, where the screening rate is less than 50%. These patients had been invited to participate in bowel screening but had not returned their FOBt within 13 weeks of initial invitation by the Midlands and North West Bowel Cancer Screening Hub.
What does the study involve?
We will randomly allocate the participants to one of two groups:
1. GP reminder to participate in bowel screening and additional FOBt kit, OR
2. No additional contact
We compared how may people participated in bowel screening after 13 weeks. This was measured by the number of FOBt kits that were returned to the bowel screening hub by patients in each group. This allowed us to assess if the GP reminder to participate in bowel screening and additional FOBt kit was successful in increasing the participation in bowel screening. A small interview was carried out with some patients who received the GP reminder who returned a FOBt kit.

Project description:Background and study aims
We carried out a study on subjects with a positive fecal occult blood test performed in the local colorectal cancer screening programme. Our goal was to find the best way to invite these subjects to undergo a total colonoscopy (TC).
Who can participate?
3800 subjects aged 50-69 years old, who attended nine colorectal cancer screening programmes in Italy.
What does the study involve?
The screening programmes invited subjects to undergo a fecal occult blood test (FOBT) every two years. Subjects with a positive FOBT (FOBT+) were invited to undergo a TC. During the study, FOBT+ subjects were randomly allocated to be invited to a TC in different ways:
1. Both first invitation and recall by mail
2. First invitation by phone, recall to non-compliers by mail
3. First invitation by phone, recall by face-to-face counseling with the General Practitioner
4. First invitation by phone, recall by an appointment with a specialist screening practitioner (nurse, healthcare assistant)
At the end of the study, we compared the uptake of TC of the groups of subjects who had received the different types of invitation.
