Project description:* Compared with traditional open colectomy, laparoscopic surgery is associated with less pain, earlier recovery, and better cosmetic outcome, and its short- and long-term oncologic outcomes have been demonstrated. * In experienced surgeons’ hands, single incision laparoscopic surgery is increasingly performed for colorectal disease, and even for malignant lesion because of its reduced incision-associated morbidity and scarring. * However, the safety and efficacy of single incision laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer has not yet been evaluated. Thus, the prospective randomized trial comparing single incision versus conventional laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer is needed.

Project description:Interventions: 1)Single incision laparoscopic surgery: All trocars passes a special platform via a single wound. Addition of one trocar because of transection of colon or insertion of drainage tube is allowed. It is defined when there are addition of two trocars or more as the conversion into the multi-port surgery. The application of Colon lifting technique of the securing purpose of counter traction is allowed. 2) Multiport laparoscopic surgery: The ports are set up up to 4-5 places at the time of beginning the operation. *When the wound length is 8cm or more, it is defined as the conversion to the open surgery. Project description:This study compares the gene expression changes in Sus scrofa in response to two different methods for abdominal surgical incisions ; electrosurgery and harmonic blade. As the use of laparoscopic surgery has become more widespread in recent years, the need has increased for minimally-invasive surgical devices that effectively cut and coagulate tissue with reduced tissue trauma. Although electrosurgery (ES) has been used for many generations, newly-developed ultrasonic devices (HARMONIC® Blade, HB) have been shown at a macroscopic level to offer better coagulation with less thermally-induced tissue damage. Project description:We performed whole blood gene expression profiling in 26 patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer stage I-III UICC. Saples were taken the day before surgery (-1), day one postoperatively (+1) and day 10 postoperatively (+10). The aim of the study was to investigate whether gene expression was altered after laparoscopic colon cancer surgery.
