Molecular Determinants of Response to Preoperative Therapy in Patients With Locally Advanced Colorectal Cancer

ABSTRACT: The goal of this laboratory research is to look for genes that can predict which patients will achieve a complete disappearance of their colorectal cancer after treatment like chemotherapy, radiation, or other therapy. This is an investigational study. Up to 350 patients will take part in this study. All will be enrolled at MD Anderson.

The Beans to Enrich the Gut Microbiome vs. Obesity’s Negative Effects (BE GONE) Trial

Project description:You are being asked to take part in this study because either you are a survivor who has a previous history of colorectal cancer or an MD Anderson patient who had a precancerous colorectal polyp or you have a previous history of colorectal cancer, and you have a current adult body mass index (BMI) score of 25 or higher. The BMI score is used as an indicator of the level of body fat, based on height and weight. The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if eating canned, pre-cooked beans can help improve the levels of healthy bacteria in the digestive system and reduce the effects of obesity on cancer risk. This is an investigational study. Up to 80 participants will be enrolled in this study. All will take part at MD Anderson.

Factorial study for evaluating the effect of Affy platform and lab on gene expression measurements

Project description:Comparison of concordance in single and multi-gene genomic indices from data generated by two different laboratories (MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDA) and Jules Bordet Institute (JBI)) and on two different Affymetrix platforms (U113A and U133_Plus2). We used a 2x2 factorial study in which 16 clinical breast cancer samples were profiled by both laboratories on both platforms (64 arrays total).

Project description:Patient-derived glioma stem-like cell (GSC-11), a kind gift of Dr. Lang at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, was subjected to a transient transfection to down-regulate SOX2 expression. Specific human SOX2 siRNA and a non-targeting control siRNA (si-Scramble) were used in four independent experiments. The cells were then cultured for 72 h after transfection and subjected to the miRNA array analysis.

Study of Durvalumab (MEDI4736) (Anti-PD-L1) and Trametinib (MEKi) in MSS Metastatic Colon Cancer

Project description:The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if durvalumab and trametinib can help to control microsatellite stable (MSS) colorectal cancer. The safety of these drugs will also be studied. This is an investigational study. Durvalumab is FDA approved and commercially available for the treatment of previously treated advanced bladder cancer. Trametinib is FDA approved in combination with another drug called dabrafenib for the treatment of unresectable or metastatic melanoma with BRAF V600E or BRAF V600K. It is investigational to use durvalumab and trametinib to treat MSS colorectal cancer. Up to 56 participants will be enrolled in this study. All will take part at MD Anderson.
