ABSTRACT: Interventions: In this prospective, randomized study 176 patients, according to the sample calculation, were divided into two groups. Group 1, consisting of 84 patients, received accelerated recovery care, early onset of diet, stimulation of early ambulation, avoidance of nasogastric catheter and prolonged urinary catheter, adequate pain control, and restrictive volume replacement. Group 2, consisting of 77 patients, received the conventional care already adopted by the clinic that were, the beginning of diet after elimination of flatus, without stimulus for ambulation, control of pain according to the patient’s demand, more abundant hydration. Among the 176 patients in the study, 14 were excluded because they had the surgery converted to open surgery and two patients because they had incomplete medical records.;Procedure/surgery;H02.403.810.208
Primary outcome(s): Expected Outcome 1- Hospital stay, determined by discharge frequency up to the third postoperative day. Data from groups 1, using the accelerated recovery protocol, were compared with data from group 2 using the conventional postoperative protocol.;Outcome 1 - The median hospitalization of group 1 was 3 days and the median of group 2 was 05 days.
