Project description:4 Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (275-350 g) were anesthetized and subjected to hepatectomy sham surgery (abdominal cavity was opened, liver was handled, but no tissue resection was made). 1 hour after the surgery rats were killed and liver samples were harvested. This study was conducted to analyzes the effects of surgical stress on gene expression levels in rat liver. It provides additional data to 1-6 h partial hepatectomy study (Series GSE7415). Project description:Interventions: A: Within 56 days after surgery, patients receive infusional oxaliplatin and oral capecitabine. Patients receive infusional bevacizumab as from second course. Treatment repeats every 21 days for 8 courses in the absence of disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. B: Patients receive infusional oxaliplatin, bevacizumab and oral capecitabine. Treatment repeats every 21 days for 8 courses in the absence of disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Patients do not receive bevacizumab at last course. Project description:Frozen liver tissue from 24 month old C57BL/6 mice; control or each of the other three treatment groups taken pre and 36 hour post hepatectomy were used for analysis (n=2 per group). Mice were administrated intraperitoneally with one of the following agents every day for 7 days and 10 minutes before hepatectomy or hepatocyte isolation: 0.5 ml of saline, 500 umol alpha-aminobutyric acid or 500 umol gamma-aminobutyric acid in 0.5ml of saline. Mice in control group received no pre-administrations.

Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide effects in type 1 diabetes

Project description:Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) has been proposed to exert insulin-independent effects on lipid and bone metabolism. We investigated the effect of a 6-day s.c. GIP infusion on circulating lipids, white adipose tissue (WAT), brown adipose tissue (BAT), hepatic fat content, and inflammatory markers in patients with type 1 diabetes. In a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study, 20 men with type 1 diabetes underwent a 6-day continuous s.c. infusion with GIP (6 pmol/kg/min) and placebo (saline), with an interposed seven-day washout period. Each intervention period involved three study days: Day 0 (baseline measurements, a baseline abdominal adipose tissue biopsy and blood sampling), Day 1 (fasting blood sample after 24 hours infusion), and Day 6 (fasting blood sample, an abdominal adipose tissue biopsy).

Project description:This experiment set contains all of the arrays described in Baldwin et al., Genome Biology, 2002. All experiments are time courses, with the exception of multiple measurements for the zero time point in the parallel time course for the purpose of zero transformation. The parallel four hour time course was performed on a single day and three independent measurements were taken prior to infection. The eight hour time courses were each performed on different days, with single time zero measurements. Each array represents a measurement of human mRNA from cultured intestinal epithelial cells (red channel), relative to the control reference pool of mRNA (green channel), at different time points during the course of an infection by Listeria monocytogenes, or the mutants actA (defective in actin-based motility) and prfA (defective in virulence factor gene expression).
