Effects of exercise on strength of Colorectal Cancer patients undergoing Chemotherapy

ABSTRACT: Interventions: The measurements will be taken before and after 8 weeks of intervention in 20 participants who will be randomly divided in a counterbalanced manner into two groups: Training (TG) and Control (CG). A researcher will perform the data collection in a blinded manner. The intervention will be performed only in the training group, in order to analyze the effectiveness of muscle co-contraction training on levels of maximum torque, muscle thickness, fatigue conditions and quality of life, and the expression of miRNAs. This training will be supervised by a Physical Education Professional in a virtual way. The CG group, on the other hand, will not perform the co-contraction training and will maintain the physical activities they already performed previously. For the muscle co-contraction training, the Physical Education Professional will send a Google Meet link to the participants. Meetings will occur virtually twice a week for eight weeks. The interval defined between one training session and another will be a minimum of 72 hours and a maximum of 96 hours. In all the meetings to be held with the research participants, the Physical Education Professional responsible for supervising the training will make sure that the participants have the camera open for safety reasons and to make postural corrections if necessary. Once positioned, the participants will receive the verbal instruction Try to contract your biceps and triceps simultaneously as hard as you can without your forearm moving and Try to contract your quadriceps and hamstrings simultaneously as hard as you can without your leg moving for the elbow and knee co-contractions, respectively. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to perform two five-second co-contractions (on each of the two exercises) for familiarization;G11.427.410.698.277 Primary outcome(s): After intervention, we expect a significative increase in the maximum isometric torque (Nm) of knee and elbow extension and flexion, measured by an isokinetic dynamometer equipment (Biodex, System 4 Pro, New York, NY, USA) with an acquisition frequency of 100 Hz.
