Regions of common inter-individual DNA methylation differences in human monocytes.
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Based on whole genome bisulfite sequencing of five human monocytes from unrelated individuals, we have identified regions of common inter-individual DNA methylation differences, where methylation is inversely correlated with active histone marks, but not with the expression of the associated genes. Genome-wide association studies in 1128 individuals show that allelic DNA methylation is caused by genetic variation in cis. At some loci, DNA methylation appears to be affected also by genetic variation in trans.
