IRF5 produced by kidney macrophages promotes polycystic kidney disease
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: We show that Pkd1 mice have higher levels of kidney IRF5 compared to control mice and that IRF5 expression is found predominantly in macrophage populations in the kidney. Suppressing IRF5 with an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) decreased kidney IRF5, the total number of kidney macrophages, pro-inflammatory cytokine production, and attenuated kidney cyst growth.
