ABSTRACT: The study aims to show that a metabolic shift is a precondition for the initiation of an invasive/metastatic program in pancreatic cancer. Paracrine cues and metabolic stress (mimicked in vitro by treatment with macrophage-conditioned media and low dose etomoxir) regularly found in the metastasis-promoting tumor stroma consistently induced transcriptional changes resulting in the acquisition of migratory and invasive abilities.
