Landscape of single-cell transcriptomics of human placent in pathophysiological pregnancies
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: Pathophysiological pregnancies amy result from gene-environmental interactions. In this study, investigation of the placental cell development in both chorionic villi and decidua of variant forms of pathophysiological pregnancies was pursued with a single cell RNA sequencing. Transcriptomic gene differential expression in variant placental cell clusters from chorionic villi and decidua of pregnancies, unique marker genes in trophoblasts that may lead to identification of biomarker for placental cell development states and cell-specific pathway activities were identified. In addition, gene expression profiles of ACE2 and TMPRSS2, the two key proteins involved in SARS-CoV-2 infection, in variant placental cell clusters was documented, which may facilitate exploration of vertical transmission of COVID-19 from mother to fetus.
