Differential content of circRNA in human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and their extracellular vesicles (EVs).

ABSTRACT: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are an emergent class of non-coding RNAs commonly generated by back-splicing events, resulting in a highly stable RNA structure, devoid of free 5’ and 3’ ends. circRNAs display the main mechanism of action as miRNA sponges, resulting in the modulation of their regulatory activity. Current knowledge suggests that they could play a relevant role in cellular biology and pathophysiology. In this study, for the first time, we detected circRNAs as a new component of the induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived extracellular vesicles (EV) cargo. We further compared the circRNA profile of hiPSC-EV with that of their parental cells (hiPSCs).
