ABSTRACT: As an important part of the plant root system, the root hair has a high degree of plasticity, which can help the plant to improve the absorption of water and nutrients and efficiency when the plant encounters stress. It is well known that jasmonic acid can promote the elongation of JA and this promotion is achieved by degrading JAZs to release RHD6. However, not all JAZs are degraded by SCFCOI1. We found that ERF114 in the ERF family interacts with most JAZs, and the erf114 mutant has a short root hair phenotype. This may provide a new idea for how to inhibit the function of JAZs that cannot be degraded. That is, the binding of the target protein is inhibited by the competition between proteins. Through biochemical experiments, genetic analysis and RNA-seq results analysis, it was proved that ERF114 participated in JA signal transmission and affected the transcriptional activity of MYC2 for downstream JA-responding genes. At the same time, MYC2 can directly affect the transcription of ERF114, form a positive feedback signal, and participate in the growth and development process of root hair mediated by JA. RHD6 also plays a role in this process.
